I read a lot about DPMS, POF, LMT, Armalite and so on and so on… But I havent read anything about the JP rifles. How do they fare in the grand scheme of 308-AR’s?
I was very interested in one of their rifles and their prices range seems reasonable in comparison to other rifles. Would I be buying into a gimmick? Or are they truly the “bees knees” as they say they are?

I haven’t shot any of the other AR 308 platforms, but I do like my JP. There are many good options, most roughly the same price, and they can all perform about the same.
If you want a SBR, chrome lined barrel, or don’t want the JP adjustable gas block, then I would look elsewhere.
My LRP-07 308 is a sub MOA gun with decent ammunition, but where it has a real advantage is with the low mass operating system and adjustable gas block to minminze recoil signature. I’m probably almost as fast with this rifle as I am with my CTR-02.
I have only used the Magpul LR 20 mags and so far this has been 100% reliable with FMJ ammo, but I haven’t even put 1000 rounds through it yet.
Of course, customer service is excellent with JP and although I’ve had no problems that have required their help, they are great about answering questions in general.
I really wish they made a 308 with a 14.5" barrel, because this is what I want for my next riflle.

Can ask what configuration you chose for your LRP? I am considering the 18" light weight model.
By chance would you know if the LRP-07 is compatible with the ABS carbon barrels?
I have the 18" lightweight barrel with a PRS stock and I’m very happy with this configuration.
However, I don’t know about the compatibility with the barrel you mentioned.
Be nice if they sold those lowers. I dig the boxy look.
Are the barrels threaded, or is the compensator part of the barrel? What twist rate is the barrel? On their websight they sell some .308 barrels that say “barrel kit” that are 1-11.25 and some that are 1-10? Just wondering which one comes with the complete rifle.

The barrel is 1:11.25.
The compensator looks like it is part of the barrel. I believe they attach the compensator and somehow do some fine lathing (I’m not a machinist-not even sure if I can spell it) so you cannot tell they are separate.
If you call JP, I am sure they would be happy to attach whatever compensator you would like.
What little I do know about JP’s is that the comp is fixed, not threaded… and that you have a choice of 1:10 or 1:11.25 by barrel options during your initial rifle order. Judging by the length of their order/turnaround time, I doubt JP keeps a lot of completed merchandise on hand. Their rifles seem to be built per order.
I’m very fond of shooting heavier loads (175gr - 180gr) for hunting, so I’m preferential to the 1:10 barrel. I also have a near limitless supply of Win match 168gr JHP. I really want to keep my AR-308 at 18"… maybe shorter.
I was originally set on the DPMS SASS, but I am quite fond of the concept for the LRP-07 side charging handle. I want to learn more about LRP-07, in fear that I may be buying into a gimmick rather than functional upgrade/evolution to the Ol’ AR-308 platform.

They will probably answer your barrel questions. I did email them a couple years ago on the possibility of getting the barrel threaded for a suppressor if I bought one, and they said “no problem”. Very accommodating and very quick replies to my questions.

I just got the new JP catalogue with my last order ( I had them install their tactical fire control group on bunch of 223 lowers I bought after the election).
And what did a I see in their catalogue…a LRP-07 .308 SBR!!!
They built a custom 14.5" bbl SBR that was pictured in their catalogue.
Now that I know they can/will do this, it’s time to give them a call, place an order, and get my current JP lower engraved (I guess I’ll be keeping this lower for the long term!)

I recieved the LRP-07 about a month ago. I got the 22" match barrel with a 5 x 20 Horus Vison scope. It was just in time for a basic sniper class that I was taking. I have never shot a precision rifle but I was able to 3/4 " at 100 yards on the first day. I had two groups at 1/2" and a few at 1 1/4" but that was me and not that gun.
There were six other guys in the sniper class and they all had .308 bolt guns. The instructors (Former LAPD SWAT sniper and former Navy Seal Sniper) were excellent and had us all getting pretty consistant hits. The course was with ITTS in Los Angeles.
We finally starting shooting out to 1000 yards and I got 3 out of 5 hits on about an 18" by 18 " target. I hit two dead center, one upper right, one 12" high at 12 o’oclock, and one 6" high at 12" oclock. I only got to fire 5 shots at the 1000 yard range. But, the misses were me and not the gun. If I had my act together I could have hit all 5 but like I mentioned, I am new to this type of long distance shooting.
In fact, I think I could have hit at 1100 yards because I was shooting a little high and had to adjust lower. I was using 168 grain AMAX from Sheep Dog Ammo. Great ammo by the way. The owner (Travis) makes the ammo by hand himself. It’s great ammo.
For anyone thinking about an LRP-07, I highly reccomend the entire JP line. I was shooting prone in sandy dirt for the entire school. I only had one malfunction and that was because I got sand in my magazine. Most of the guys that had bolt guns had at least one malfunction too.
Jp’s customer service is top notch. John Paul even answered a few questions himself and gave me some pointers. Eric is awesome at JP and is always willing to help. I am having them build me an 18" light weight version LRP-07 for a mutipurpose gun. It will be about the same weigth as my Colt LE6940 (its a little heavier) but I will have more range and knock down power. And the JP guns really don’t recoil much, they feel like you are shooting a .223. Anyway, they are great guns for anyone looking for one.
When you buy JP you’re buying quality. That said, in the AR-308 realm, it’s not hard to make them accurate.
As for the ABS barrel, the JP barrels SMOKE barrels from ABS. The carbon fiber has a high CDI (chicks dig it) factor, but from a practical standpoint, they just aren’t as good, especially for the price.

I think COsta had one of these at the Precision class. I swear he said that he had shot it out to 1000 yards with the LRI guys. I have to say, it is a funny looking rifle. Looks like it is straight off the short bus.
I have a JP 223 upper with the adjustable gas and LMOS. Sweet shooting rifle. When I get running it, it feels like it is a 22lr.
