It’s time to buy bullets again and I just wanted to see if you guys knew of any good deals. I’m not looking for anything special; just 55 grn FMJs for plinking.
Right now, I’m looking at Berry’s ($101 / 1000), Wideners ($39 / 500), and some montana gold from a small distro for $44 / 500. The Berry’s price is freight included.
I’d love to hear if you guys have some better deals!
$75 shipped for 1,000, $280 for 4,000 if you’re a hoarder like I am. I get mine within two days but he’s pretty close to me location wise. Regardless it’s a good deal.
Honestly it feels like the projectile shortage is over because although a particular site might be out of something which makes consolidating orders more difficult, I don’t have much trouble finding whatever projectile I’m after.
I bought the surplusammo ones for $280. Very very nice bullets.
I have also bought a ton of the PRVI from Wideners (and in the ancient past IMI from Wideners). PRVI is also very nice, but the cannelure was in a different location than most 55gr have it.
I have only bought the Montana Gold pistol bullets, not the 224 55gr bullets, but they were also nice.
If we’re talking 5.56 wideners has some good deals on bulk bullet packs. 75gr OTM is $555 for 5000 free shipping. I haven’t loaded any yet but the review they post on them shows pretty decent specs. I figure I’ll sort them and see how they shoot.
btw natchez ss has new LC 5.56 brass $119 for 1000. That’s the same price as Scharch’s once fired remanufactured.
For lead pistol bullets I really like missouri bullet company. They offer different hardnesses and had the best prices when I ordered last year.
For powder I like powder valley and they have some primers in stock.
I use to get my hard cast bullets from Prime Reloading Supply www.primereloading.com. Excellent service reasonable prices. I purchased from Barry’s for awhile then Dave Olhasso suggested Bayou Bullets www.bayoubullets.com. I have purchased there ever since. Donnie provides excellent service and I can Highly recommend the product. They are hard cast bullets with a proprietary molly lube that produces little to no smoke. When reloading your hands end up clean and I have noticed no leading of the gun barrels and less residue on the gun overall. The bullets have proven to be extremely accurate in my weapons. Pricing falls between standard hard cast bullets and Barry’s. The only downfall is that when shooting them they produce a unique smell.
Been getting mine from Widener’s. Here’s a pic of a group (.362@100 yd) shot with my AR10 (top left). Widener’s 145gr FMJs, listed under milspec bullets. $80/500 rds. These are run of the mill bullets-I did not measure or weigh any of them before loading them by the hundreds on my Dillon 550B. 42 gr surplus 4895, CCI milspec primers. mixed brands of brass, nothing special done. They were loaded in bulk as plinking ammo. Loaded to max mag length. light crimp w/Lee factory crimp die. I use RCBS small base X dies. I think this testifies to the quality of the Wideners bullets coupled with the right loading specs. The rifle is a Bushmaster BAR10, no longer made by them-but now Rock River is making them. It uses FAL mags.
Edit-I live in Louisiana, so “mid-range humidity” is roughly 40-45%. 85-90 *F feels more like 95-100 most of the time.
