When mounting a tactical light to an AR

Today I finally mounted my Surefire G2 light to my Vltor CASV-EL at a 45degree angle in the 11 o’clock position. This is because of my personal preference in the way that I utilize my foregrip. I hold my rifle in a way that the grip is mostly a brace rather than a grip to entirely hold. I can activate the light with my right thumb rather smoothly. I’m right handed. The person that was assisting me at the gun shop said it would interfere with my sight and or optic. Seeing as how I am right handed the light would interfere with my line of site in my dominant eye. My right eye. I use an Aimpoint ML3. I immediately shot around 400 rounds continuously using the light. I had no interference that I could notice. In fact I was comfortable shooting for the first time in that mounted position. Is there a correct tactical way to mount the light for right handed users, or is personal preference the best route to approach?? Thank you in advance.

If it’s working for you and it’s secure, you’ve already got it. Unless you’re part of some organization with its own SOP you have to answer to, you’re on our own program and whatever works for you is correct.

I use a VFG, and like to have my light on an Daniel Defense offset mount that kicks down 45deg on the right side so I can engage it with either thumb, regardless of whether I’m shooting strong- or weak-side. I’ve tried other configurations, and since this is the one that I feel I’m most effective with, it’s the one I go with.

Only your own range time will tell you if you need to try to do something different, so shoot the piss out of it, have fun, and take your own notes along the way.
