Let me preface with this; leaving your gun in your car is a terrible idea.
With that being said, there are instances where you simply can’t bring your CC into whatever establishment that you’re required to go to. Bars, post offices(hell, you legally can’t bring a gun into the post office parking lot), Sports events, etc, etc, and if caught you could wind up in a lot of trouble.
While you can carry to and from the destination, regardless of how we feel, the gun has to stay in the car.
He’s my “I really wouldn’t miss it, so whatever, and I can leave it in the car” gun.
Reliable, and cheap, but not Jennings cheap…and I didn’t actually pay money for it. The trigger is hilariously terrible and 1/2 the time it doesn’t lock back on empty…but neither do AKs, so it’ll work.
(yes, I know, you wouldn’t go to sports events, haven’t been to a post office in 40 years, and you don’t drink…not your thread)
Honestly, a Glock 19. They are legion, not terribly pricey (especially when there are tons of lightly used guns out there), and need very little $ to make them ready. Glock night/steel sights perhaps a light and G17 trigger assy.
I can replace mine easily enough, although I don’t leave firearms in vehicles as a rule.
Concealed is concealed. I stay out of bars, do most of my shipping from home and any business that doesn’t want my business can FO. I’/m not donating a firearm to anyone willing to break into my car.
Nailed it. About the only places I can think of that absolutely under no circumstances allow carrying of a firearm is the courthouse and city building where I live. Both have fully staffed metal detectors with 5-6 armed officers working the lobby at any given time. Every where else, no one needs to know.
Intensely encouraging that the philosophy I’ve been following for years is shared by like-minded individuals.
For that instance, yes, my answer is whatever cheap bone stock anything that is readily available and I don’t suck at shooting, which here of late appears to be M&P Shield 9mm’s, which fit into lots of reasonable places.
Andy and Steyr said it already but I carry what I trust, usually my Sig P365, and I don’t leave anything in my car worth stealing. The last thing I want to tell the cops is the only thing they stole was a nice pistol and 3 loaded mags.
If you’re so worried someone is going to steal the gun that you won’t leave a Glock or something else decent in the car, then you just shouldn’t leave it in there period. The lost value of the firearm is the LEAST, and I mean the absolute least, of your worries if a criminal steals a gun from your vehicle. It’s equally as irrelevant as people who say they won’t use a nice gun for home defense because the cops will take it for evidence.
You also shouldn’t have a bunch of different guns for defensive use. I have a private range and a big ammo stockpile I’ve been stacking for 15 years, and it’s all I can do just to maintain basic proficiency with one pistol and one rifle. So just pick one that you feel is best for the job, irrespective of cost, and stick with it. If you have to leave it in the car, take whatever measures you feel are necessary to keep it out of the wrong hands. I leave mine in the glovebox, but I also live in probably the lowest crime demographic category in the world. I might get one of those lockboxes that cables to the seat frame if I lived in a high crime area.
We played with one of those lockboxes a couple years ago. That cable can be cut in under 10 seconds with a cordless grinder and cutoff wheel. Certainly better than nothing, but that’s the same tool thieves use to get catalytic converters and they get away with an amazing amount of those as well. I think there’s a market for vehicle specific vaults. One would fit really well under the back seat of my F350 or the lower storage area under my center console. If I had one of those type vaults I’d be more inclined to leave a firearm in the vehicle during daylight hours.
There’s not much that can withstand an angle grinder. People don’t generally do that kind of thing with cars sitting in busy parking lots though. As long as you’re not leaving the gun in the car overnight you should be safe from 99% of that kind of thing. I’m assuming we’re just talking about leaving the gun in the car when you run into the post office or something, not leaving it in there permanently.
Same. The only time I leave a gun in my vehicle is when I travel, and pretty uncommonly then. I do want to get a console vault which will be used for more than just firearms.
I had some buddies who bolted them under their seats and it was probably better than anything else, including putting guns in the trunk. They still mostly carried on their person, but if they had to go to a Federal building or whatever it became an option.
I work for the gov’ment and we can’t carry on the property. When I worked at our corporate office I left my G19 in the car (parked at a hotel parking garage - monthly parking). Now I’m at a satellite location and parking is on property so I no longer have one in the car. Sadly I don’t carry as often since I don’t have one with me all the time now…
I have a pistol (G-26) in my Truck 24-7.
It goes where I go unless it is prohibited or my Spidey sense says no.
Park my truck in the garage, gun stays in the truck.
Why would anyone turn their garage in to a storage/junk room is beyond me.
Once again. This thread isn’t for you. Young people in 2022 have kids in schools with metal detectors and the skating rinks…and movie theaters, etc. Yes, we got it. You lived in 1980. We’re talking about 2022.
Well in 2022 I go to movie theaters all the time and constantly pick up my friends who work at schools. They aren’t letting me in the building anyway and so long as I use my 1980 “wisdom” being in the parking lot isn’t a problem.
