Tell me all about it.
What is the purpose?
What makes it so much better than the other camo patterns out there?
I’m honestly like because it looks like some sort of weird dragonfly pattern, even less “natural” than MC/Atacs or even old-school Woodland. Is this another “looks cool” thing like the great ACU/digicam mistake, or is it for some reason actually more effective than other current stuff?
There is tons of stuff about Kryptek and the other camo topics over at soldiersystems. His articles follow how the testing is conducted and how it performs to both new camo pattterns and other “vetted” patterns (MARPAT, Multicam etc.).
+1
Camo is so subjective when one takes into account where one lives and the type of environment someone spends the most time in. No point in arguing which one is best. Heck, I live in central Texas and like old school woodland, multicam, and just strait up khaki/coyote tan depending on the season.
For the average citizen I would say the latest camouflage is simply a tacticool fad. For those that wear cammies because they actually have to hide from their fellow man because their life is at stake there may be some logic in adopting the newest model. At the end of the day it’s all about application. Are you wearing it to look cool, or because someone is actively trying to find and kill you?
I have a pack in Typhon and most people don’t even realize that it is camouflage. I think to most people it just looks like one of those fanciful camouflages invented for snowboarders and skiers as fashion camo.
I’d love to get some Yeti overwhites.
And then there are those of us who wear it because coyotes have surprisingly good eyesight for dogs.
I had a roommate who wore MultiCam while bow-hunting and antelope hunting, too. I’m pretty sure he still does. Either way, he’s got and uses a Mystery Ranch hunting pack in MultiCam.
Until this exact moment, I thought Kryptek was stupid and personally I don’t wear camo patterns at all - I live in a city so camo for me is jeans and a t-shirt.
But if it’s a high-performing pattern then all of a sudden I think it’s really useful precisely because it looks like a fake fashion camo. You might be able to wear high performance SERE gear while looking to everyone on the street like some snowboarder or other random civilian.
Personally, I figure there’s likely a half dozen or more patterns that work comparably well in the environment they’re designed for.
That said, Kryptek is apparently one of those that works at least as well as the next option, and I personally think it looks cool. All other factors being equal, I’ll take what looks coolest.
Why wouldn’t you want to look good kneeling there proudly beside your berifled monster buck? Hunting means pictures, and pictures go on Facebook, nowadays.
