What's the whistling sound this Camaro is making?

I’ve never heard an idle like this before. Turbo, supercharger, gear drive?
8.75 seconds @161mph!

That thing did sound pretty sick. I doubt it’s turbo’d, didn’t sound like it anyway. It’s most likely supercharged to pull off that ET.

It sounds like a twin screw supercharger. The giveaway is the “popping” from the exhaust on the let off of the gas due to high internal compression the supercharger makes. Twin screws are MUCH more expensive than other styles of chargers but make more power if set up right. Although they are not typically seen on street cars.

The new Ford GT uses this type of supercharger.

I agree that it’s a supercharger. I’d love to see a total parts list for what that guy did to the car.

I didn’t view the video, but if the car is “whistling” at idle, it is using a centrifugal supercharger such as a Vortech, ProCharger, or Paxton Novi. They get quieter under acceleration when a load is applied. If it whistles under acceleration but is quiet at idle, it is turbocharged. If it is quiet at idle but “whines” under acceleration, it is a positive-displacement supercharger such as a Whipple, Magnacharger, Eaton, etc.

You can’t hear it when it’s charging down the track because of it’s, and the other car’s, exhaust. It’s whining at the line every time he blips the throttle as he rolls up to trip the lights.

I would guess SC also. That video was tooo coool !

“Whining” or “whistling”? I’m guessing it is a centrifugal blower like a Vortech. Even with open headers, you can hear a turbo or Whipple/Eaton/roots blower at full throttle.
