Are there many people running an ACOGs all the way to the rear of the top rail on their AR and not using a BUIS so you can bring the ACOG back closer to your eye??? i know the ACOG is built like a tank. This would be on a Patrol Rifle.
I’m pretty sure the consensus arround here will be to use a folding rear BUIS.

Yup. I run a Troy folder on my 6920. I used to run a Compact ACOG 1.5x on the carbine.
I have to put TA01s and TA31s all the way to the rear on fixed rifle length stocks only. That combination is the only one that precludes the use of a BUIS due to the required eye-relief.
With collapsible stocks and/or a TA11 I can use a Troy under the primary optic.
Like F2S says, an adjustable throw-length pretty much eliminates the need to run an ACOG all the way to the rear. Just make sure that you’re using a quality throw-arm mount for your optic. The idea is that you’re able to quickly ditch the optic if it goes TU and use the BUIS.
If you use the stock TA51 mount, or similar, it’s a bit of a chore even if you have a tool handy to get the thing off if you tightened the screws past your ability to get them loose fast. If you don’t have a flat-head screwdriver, it’ll be a very slow process at best or an impossible one at worst.
