Is ‘reliable 1911’ an oxymoron when talking about a mass produced 1911?
Which 1911 would you buy for $2k or less?
The Springfield Armory TRP & Dan Wesson Valor immediately come to mind. Either is considerably less than 2k.
Would rank the TRP on the list fast. Think there was one in the EE for under a grand. There are others as well.
TRP would be my vote as well. Mine has run flawlessly.

Dan Wesson Valor for sure. Their Specialist is very nice for a railed 1911.

If you’re new to 1911s, pick the TRP. If well versed in them, pick the Valor.
Love and highly recommend the TRP. I have a full rail and it shoots like a laser, eats every kind of ammo and is built like a tank.
As mentioned, the DW Valor is another incredibly solid choice.
You can also shop around a find the entry-level Les Baer right at about the $2k mark, too.
Won’t go wrong with any of those 3.
If you can, try either a les baer custom carry or a les baer UTC model. both hover around the price for a little less than two grand. I own the custom carry model. Great gun.
TRP. It’s the only gun that I’ve sold that I truly miss.

The colt m45A1 is regarded as pretty good and the one I own is no exception. Last year at Larry vickers 1911 operator class he said this wod be his first choice in off the shelf guns

why not try to find a used Wilson or maybe SA custom
I think for the money TRP’s are really tough to beat. I’ve seen used ones for under a thousand, and they are absolute work horses. The overall fit and quality of mine is outstanding. It isn’t a wilson, but it’s sure as hell not a kimber either.
After talking on FB with Larry Vickers seems the Dan Wesson Specialist is good to go as far as a production gun.
Please explain, that is about the price point I was looking at as well. I am trying to decide between the TRP’s and Valor/Specialist. It seems I am finding used TRP’s in the 900-1200 range and used DW’s in the 1400-1600 range.
What about the ruger sr1911, how does that stack up against TRP or Valor?
It’s an ok gun for $700; in no way does it come close to comparing to a TRP or Valor, though.
