Hey guys, I’m looking at the possibility of selling my AR at some point between now and December or so (possible financial issues for the spring semester). What I’m wondering is, what would you guys recommend that I ask/expect to get both from a gun shop and on the private market.
Here are the specs:
Lower- Spike’s Tactical lower, Magpul MOE trigger guard (alum) and grip, Vltor EMOD stock, Phase 5 EBRv2
Upper- BCM 16" Mid-length LW complete upper, Daniel Defense Omega 9.0, BCM Gunfighter CH, BCM BCG, LMT fixed rear sight
Misc- Larue Handstop/index clip combo, Larue/VTAC Sling, VTAC light mount and either Surefire G2X or Fenix TK12R5

Expect 40 to 50% of what you paid for it at a gun shop they have to make money to. With a Private sale your going to make out alot better, your not going to make money on it. The market drives the price as well as how hard up you are I guess. I would guess you are going to take a 2 to 3 hundred dollar loss on what ever you have into it at a minumum.
As far as what I have in it right now, probably $1400+…it’s only got 600-800 rounds through it tops as well, so would $900-1100 be feasible on private market right now, and $600-800 from a store?
You might as well concentrate on finding a way to keep it. You’re just going to get another one down the road!;)… unless…people are not able to obtain them anymore, you don’t want to take a loss either.
I’d like to keep it if I can, but if need be, it’ll be the first thing to go as it spends most of its life in my very small closet taking up space lol (only coming out to play once every 1-2 months at best lately due to said financial situations).
Only addicts and idiots sell their guns to gun stores. Unless you need cash ASAP, you will only loose money.
Value is not only related to it is worth, but also to the buyer’s interest in each component. You may be better off stripping it down to a basic configuration and selling the other items separately.
I suspect a gun shop will try and get it very low, maybe 400-500. Sounds like you built this up from scratch, and that probably means less to the dealer. They probably won’t understand the value of your components.
If you do sell it, you will probably end up missing it in the future.
Essentially what you have is a “parts gun” whether you like it or not. So your best bet is a private sale since most gun stores are too ignorant when it comes to AR’s. You have to assume about 20% right off the top of what you paid. Your best bet is to try and keep it or sell it on Backpage.com. I have had good success there buying and selling.
If anyone has interest in any of the parts mentioned in the OP, other than the lower and upper themselves, message me. I think I’m going to part out as much as I can while keeping a functioning rifle- like replacing the DD Omega with a MOE handguard, selling the larue index clips, sling, and handstops, and things like that. Anything that will help me pay off a couple bills so ends can meet with the new school loans I’ll have to pick up.
