Whatever Happened to LMT?

Seems over the past couple of years, nobody has had any Lewis Machine and Tool rifles, uppers, lowers, parts… anything in stock. Several popular online retailers (BCM, G&R Tactical, etc) also seem to have dropped them from their catalogues. With all the talk of Colt’s bankruptcy/restructuring and HK’s trouble, I’m kinda concerned - an LMT complete lower is something I’ve wanted for a build for a long time, but…

Did I miss something?

Rainier Arms has quite a few types of rifles in stock, and some uppers, and DSG Arms also has a few. You’re right though - lowers are hard to find. I think part of the problem may be that, as you said, a lot of dealers dropped them after several years of unavailable products, so now it’s hard to find someone that still carries them.

I know that LMT had some military contracts in the past. Could they have focused on those for while, leading to a lack of products for the civilian market?

LMT, like Les Baer, moved from Illinois to gun-friendlier Iowa.
This probably disrupted the supply chain a bit.
Most parts I recently ordered from their website were in-stock, or available within a reasonable time frame.
Quality is still great.

Yeah. If Colt and KAC didn’t exist, I would only use LMT.
I would namedrop BCM but have never used any of their actual products though I have bought from them before.

IIRC they also carry LMT. It’s worth the effort to track down. I’d sooner overpay for quality gear than get a “bargain deal” on something I’ll take a loss on due to it underperforming.

Says In Stock.

Nothing to be concerned about. Colt will be there.

Picked up a complete LMT lower receiver in 2014 at my LGS.

I go straight to http://lewismachine.net/ when I am looking for LMT stuff. I ordered a complete rifle from DSG just before Sandy Hook, and had it within a few months. Right now, LMT’s site shows every lower that I looked at to be in stock. LMT Lowers.

LMT rocks and you can find their stuff for sale. They are probably running at capacity which doesn’t give much impetus to market as their marketing is sorely lacking.

They’re probably just tooling up new MIM machinery! :jester:

Ouch!

LMT is very busy making their LMT MWS & LM8 platforms. The MWS is being used by a couple of NATO country military units as their DMR setup. It is also still very popular among civilian shooters.

You can try Riflegear for LMT parts & complete rifles. They currently have several in stock.

Exactly - no matter what financial gymnastic induced stupidity might be involved, the profitable part of the business isn’t going away anytime soon.

It’s again one of those availability and constant new entrants to the markets makes it seem like they’re in the background - probably just not spending as much money on promotion when they’re a bit short-stocked moving, they’ll be back, and the current rate is still supporting all the LMT vendors; coupled with fulfilling some foreign military contracts, it makes a lot of sense that they’re probably just gearing up to have maximum production capacity for the next great availability panic or big contract offering.

there contact info still shows Milan Ill… I live in Iowa and had not heard about the move, but that doesn’t mean anything.

Wish they would make a MRP keymod. I’m selling my MRP upper just because I’ve gone to a BCM upper that is lighter.

Maybe Grant can chime in here. I asked my lgs why they quit stocking LMT & I was told LMT wants you to purchase & stock 50,000 worth of inventory.

They’re stuff is around, just have to look for it a bit more than the others.

MRP-MLOK. Better yet, MWS-MLOK. Crap, now that I think about it once the latter appears I’m just going to buy one. Sometimes I hate this site.

I couldn’t agree more with this.

Yes, please! I have been dreaming this one up ever since negative space mounting was introduced with keymod.

I still plan to pick up one of their piston uppers, just to have something different. LMT makes quality stuff. I don’t see them going anywhere. As others have said, just have to dig a bit deeper to get the goods right now.
