I’m thinking I would have gotten a 22" or 24" proof barrel instead of a 26" krieger. The weight savings would be immense and it’d be less ridiculously long when suppressed.
Second would be a lighter folding stock. This JAE stock looks and feels great, but is heavy and doesn’t fold.
used a different action. otherwise, i’ve gone through enough iterations i’m pretty happy where i am
but i’m guessing if you’d gone the proof route originally, you’d be posting this thread today saying you wish you’d just got a regular barrel. maybe try a lighter profile?
what i REALLY WANT is a left handed accuracy international AXMC in a folding KMW sentinel stock. of course, none of those 3 things exist. i haven’t quite convinced myself to buy a whole left handed AI AT just to strip the glued-in action out of the chassis and put it in a non-folding sentinel. it might be worth it if i was 100% sure i wouldn’t have feeding problems.
failing that, i wish i’d gone with the defiance deviant. (even though it didn’t exist when i bought my action)
I haven’t personally owned any of RWS rifles, but he’s come and shot in and sponsored my matches before. He’s a good dude and I wouldn’t hesitate to pick that up, assuming it’s not abused or shot out etc
If I had to point to something setting me back versus where I should be, I’d say the biggest source of the problem is that I should have gotten into this 15 years ago instead of just 2-3. So currently I wish I’d bought a whole bunch of bolt guns, either sporterized stuff or hohum Fudd stuff when they cost nothing so I could be rebarrelling and blueprinting them all. Now shops know we want to do that and stuff I used to see for 200-250 is now 500+.
Would’ve gone High-End Custom or AI/SAKO out of the Gate (you’ll arrive there eventually anyway if you stay with it). Would’ve not used a Rem700 Action. Would’ve got somewhere between a Medium to M24/M40 Contour at no longer than 22" if in .308, instead of a 24" MTU Contour (aka Deuce and a half AxleShaft).
I bought a Savage FCP-SR a couple months ago, mounted a Nikon Monarch 4-16x50, and so far I have no regrets at all. If I had it to do over, I would do the exact same. Of course, I thought about what I wanted for years and years before I finally went ahead and bought a bolt gun.
If I had more time, I would spend more time reloading…
Custom action, not sure which. Well, prob least expensive. Chambered in 6.5 lapua, 20-24in long. Everything melonited (and assembled by reputable smith… that especially). I like my manners t2a so no change there… #7 contour would not change either.
I would have been more patient when buying an optic. I rushed and got a SFP scope with a mil reticle and MOA adjustments instead of a FFP mil/mil that I really wanted.
As far as the rifle itself I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. It’s not the best thing out there by any means, but it holds .7 MOA with factory ammo so I can’t complain too much.
