What would be the correct skinny CAR handguards of the

VN era vs 80s, vs post A2 pre M4 era?

Six hole, seven hole,
No HS, single HS,
Is there a true double HS skinny handguards?

Thank you.

From Vietnam right up to the adoption of the fat M4 handguards, Colt pretty much used skinny 6 hole handguards. I wouldn’t be surprised if the materials improved though, IIRC the early ones were more “Bakelite”-ish than later ones.

I believe with the exception of the Expanse line handguards from just the last couple years, Colt has never used 7-hole CAR handguards on any of their carbines. It’s either been 6-Hole CAR or M4 style.

I don’t believe double heat shield CAR handguards are a thing but I’m not sure on that one. If they are it’s probably another purely non-Colt commercial thing.

My Colt CAR handguards are 6-hole and single heat shield. Two are the are the older shiny type and one set has a duller finish. I do have a set of 6-hole CAR handguards (not sure who made them) that do not have heat shields.

Thank you.
