What to build with an FN 20in 1/7 barrel?

Okay, not a common item on the market so i snatched it up for the price of an angry wife–now what to do with it (the barrel NOT the wife  )?

  1. AR15A4–most likely the easiest build for me to do but Im not married to the idea so…

  2. C7A2–I like, in theory, the Canadian interpretation of the AR but I never had trigger time on one.

Opinions please.

You could get it cut down to 16" if you want a carbine. Otherwise, a railed 20" is nothing to sneeze at.

No cutting allowed LOL

Other than a telescoping stock and green furniture, what is the difference between an AR15A4, and a C7A2?

I’d go with the AR15A4 myself…

I’d go with the AR15A4 or C7A1, which I believe are the same aside from furniture color. The 20" combined with the little CAR stock seems like it would be a very unbalanced rifle to me. Maybe others that have qualified experience will chime in.

Definitely a Knight’s Armament M5 RAS

Not sure how it (C7A2) would balance out. I know some members here have done similar builds but beyond that I remain ignorant.

I have never even handled such a setup, so don’t take me as an authority. I’m simply going by the stated opinion of members here that I would trust. That being that the CAR stock is only desireable on small SBRs. I just figure you’ve already given up ideal CQB/HD handling characteristics by having the 20" barrel, so you may as well make it balanced and comfortable with an A1/A2 stock.

I love my C7A1 clone. Keep it simple and skip the rails. It balances much better when you keep it like this:

xxxxx

To my knowledge the C7A1 is not like our (USA) A1, since it has a flat top upper. The Canadian A1 is like our M16A4 while their C7A2 is simply the addition of a CAR stock. As previously stated: this is short term research and not hands on knowledge.

My vote A-4 all the way KAC handgaurds and Acog

I concur.

Thanks for the replies, gents. My ACOG is already employed in a different set up. I will be using an Aimpoint Comp M4/Troy BUIS for this build.
