What is the most used at the range. Mainly for 9mm. I’ve looked this up and found a lot but I’m curious what is used most. Especially at training classes today. I’m looking at getting a deal on Speer lawman, anyone else use this much? Thoughts?

Whatever is the cheapest I can find. I typically use wwb, federal champion or blazer 115 gr 9mm in my Glocks for range use and the local steel shoots. I really need to start reloading 9mm so I can shoot more. As it is I currently spend about $100 a month on pistol ammo or roughly 350-400 rounds.

I’ve been using Freedom Munitions pretty exclusively for the last couple months in 9mm, 5.56 and .44 mag. I’ve been pretty happy with it thus far, and prices have been pretty good for the most part.
For training classes and local matches I mainly use Tula/Wolf/Bear steel cased 115gr 9mm rounds. I don’t reload and for my purposes the steel cased stuff is as good as the cheap brass cased ammo.
I just took a 3-day pistol course from a nationally known instructor. His opinion is that many of the more widely sold ammunition brands have become quite lax in their quality control based on his observations over many, many courses and students. Inconsistent bullet seating, primers upside down, torn cases, and absent flash holes seem to occur with distressing frequency, and according to him QC comments to these manufacturers are generally not well-received. During this course, we did see such problems with Federal, WWB, and Speer. The guy shooting next to me had repeated problems with Blazer. This particular instructor endorses Black Hills, Hornady, and Fiocchi as consistently high quality ammunition.
I shoot PMC ammo. His observation is that that brand has velocity inconsistencies. I have chronographed PMC Bronze in both my 9mm and AR15 and found typical .223 velocity to be 2880 +/- 46 FPS out of my 16 inch barrel, so I’m not inclined to agree with him on that issue. I’ve never had an issue with PMC over more than 10,000 rounds and have never had a reason to switch.

Aguila 124g or Sellier & Bellot. Cheap, clean, runs reliably.

If I’m doing any shooting or moving (like at a match) I typically shoot steel cased, Wolf or Brown Bear, in an AR or pistol. This is because I hate to leave brass on the ground.
If I’m shooting more static drills or the crowd is limited I will shoot some cheaper brass stuff WWB or the new Federal 100 round value pack available at WallyWorld - so I can pick up the brass and swap it to my reloading brother.
I handload 1000 to 1200 rounds of 9mm a month, use either a 135g moly RN for general training and matches or a 124g FMJ loaded at simulated +P SD velocities.
Before I handloaded I shot lots of Wolf and still keep a case of a 1000 on standby in case a class / match comes up where they either don’t let you recover the brass or I’m feeling too lazy to recover the brass.
