I’m in the process of making my own NFA trust using living trust software, but I can’t seem to find information on what makes someone a proper person to own NFA items. Where can I find this? I want to cross reference it with my beneficiaries.
Take a look at questions 11.b. through 11.l. on an ATF form 4473.
This or just like at basically the same questions on the Form 1 or Form 4.

And I know you didn’t ask but I went the same route you are - using software. I ended up going to NFALawyer to redo my trust. There is too much riding on the line to put absolute faith in a piece of software. Going to a person who is highly experienced on writing trusts specifically for NFA items gave me full confidence it was done right.
+1 on professional legal advice. While you can do Legal Trusts on your own, there is a fair amount of CYA language that a competent attorney can put in the paperwork to bulletproof things. Considering the stakes, it’s not that much money, IMHO (and I’m a cheap bastard).

Short answer. As long as your state permits it, if you can own a firearm then you can own NFA items. You need to be 21 to purchase from a dealer and 18 to purchase from a private party.
