what lube do I use on my M4

new to these type of weapons- read where people use motor oil for the bolt mech. What should I use to lube the different parts on my Bushmasters ORC M4?

You will be well-served using something like Slip2000, FP-10 and/or WeaponShield. Breakfree CLP is generally fine as well. Some have luck with a grease called TW-25.

Synthetic motor oil has not been really proven, though I’m quite sure it is better than nothing.

thanks for the info- I will purchase some today

Slip makes a specific product called EWL. EWL means Extreme Weapons Lubricant. This stuff is much better than their regular Slip 2000 and miles ahead of everyone else.

That said, AR type guns are not picky and any lube is much better than none.

I’ve used Slip2000 and Miltech, both with good results. I’ll have to look for the EWL. I haven’s seen that. What separates it from the regular Slip2000?

It’s EXTREME!

Really, it’s good stuff. The qualities that define any good lube are that:

(a) it lubes (duh),
(b) it works across a wide temp range, and
(c) it doesn’t burn or evaporate off.

IMHO, item (c) is where many lubes fall short.

I have had good luck with:

Slip2K
Machine gunners lube
Weaponshield

C4

My preferred lubricant is Gun Butter. Link: http://www.gunbutter.com/

For my Dept AR and my personal guns I have had very good luck with slip2000. There carbon cutter also works very well for cleaning carbon off the bolt.

Mobile 1 all the way  1050 rds last week at machine gun shoot last week still wet and slippery at the end of the day!

I will echo the votes for Slip 2000, it has worked really well for me. I’ve also been using the 10-8 performance lube, but I don’t have what I would call long term use necessary to have a valid opinion on the product, but the 10-8 lube seems to work pretty well.

Rig +P Stainless Steel Lube and BF CLP.

Slip2000. Good stuff, good company.

I like G96 products. I just tried some gunbutter and that seemed to work really well.

Mad Dog Labs XF-7 Grease on everything with a top layer of Machine Gunners lube on the Bolt, BCG, and FCG parts.

Personally, I like FP-10 and use it on all my weapons without incident.

I’m using Machine Gunners Lube, Boeshield T-9 (dry lube) and only in freezing temperatures Mobil 1.

Gun Butter is hands down the best. Period

I use Militec-1 during the initial break-in to establish that molecular bond.

After that, I pretty much stick with wheel bearing grease. Until I tried it, I didn’t think it would work, but it works very, very well.
