What kind of verticle grips do you recomend?

I’m in the market for a new verticle grip. I was going to go with a tango down but upon inspection of the actual product I have to say I was not too impressed. I might end up going with a LaRue but I’m not sure. Any suggestions?

The larue mount is good.

Feels good
locks up to the rail (any rail) solid
3 options for sizes
panels for pressure switches (i don’t use so hard to say how great they are)
storage inside
easy on and off and back on for changing setups or changing rifle platforms

I’ve had mine since they came out for the public and no issues at all with it. I would recommend it.

You’ll get varied responses and recomendations on this. I have the Tango Down as well as the BOBRO Short VFG. I prefer the latter. No need to “slide” on or off the rails with it due to the Self Aligning Compression Lock. One handed on/off operation.

Hope you find what you’re looking for and Enjoy!

Highly personal choice. I tried KAC grips when on active duty and found them to be too long and thin. I now use nothing but the stubby Tango Down VFGs. Those are easily the best grips for me

Mostly personal preference. I’ve held rifles with KAC grips before and liked how they felt so decided to buy one. Only complaint I’ve had is at times it has become loose and will slide down the rail. Then I have to align it where I want it and tighten the knob on the bottom. Tango Down is popular but I’ve never used one before.

KAC, actually sold my tangodown when I got my 1st one. I don’t have an issue with them loosening, but I put them on very tight.

I think the bipod/vert grips are very cool. Especially ones that pivot. Various companies make them such as CAA. I’ve seen prices range from $80-180 though. I haven’t had the chance to hold many of these and I’d be sold on this item if the grip felt comfortable. Personally, I like the thickness of a KAC grip and didn’t know if I’d like a thick grip such as how Tango Down appears. As for my KAC grip loosening, I tighten mine up as much as I can but it still loosens periodically. This isn’t something that happens all the time but it has occured on a few occassions.

I agree with NCP here.
Which VFG you like will be very dependant on how you grip the VFG. Chicken-chokers tend to like the longer grips while back-stoppers tend to prefer shorter grips with a smooth/comfortable rail to grip transition.

What I like, and why, may make no impact to your preference simply because we aren’t holding the same part of the VFG/HG.

Can you explain what chicken-choker and back-stoppers are? I haven’t heard those terms before.

I am aware that by asking for suggestions that everyone’s personal preferance is going to vary. I was just curious what grips people are using as opposed to the ones that are not as popular.

“Chicken choking” refers to the shooter grabbing the grip with all four primary fingers and wrapping the thumb around the top of the grip. Think of grabbing an inverted baseball bat at the handle with a single hand. That hand position is “choking the chicken.”

Using the grip as a back-stop has several different variation. Typically the shooter only has 3-4 fingers pushing back against the VFG while his thumb, and possibly index finger, are off of the grip and on the rail/handguard.

I’m not a big vert grip kind of guy anymore, but the only two I would own are from Tango Down & KAC.

I would not hesitate to run either of them.

NCPatrol hit it.
Chicken-choker is a bit of derisive banter doled out by the genetically superior and mentally agile “back-stoppers”.
I certainly hope that they have a name for us.
Basically a back-stop grip is the same grip you would use if there was no VFG attached, but with the hand slid back until firm contact was made with the VFG.

Tango Down or Tango Down with an ADM mount.

Another vote fro the Larue F.U.G

Ok, I guess I am a chicken choker then. Nice pics you linked as well. Did you receive my PM?

My only experiences have been with the issued KAC grip or those from TD. Of those, my preference is the stubby TD grip.

I’ve used the KAC, Tango Down, and the FUG. I greatly prefer the FUG, but since it was on a test and evaluation gun I don’t own one myself yet. On my personal gun I have a KAC. The Tango Down has a nice feel and storage but it is so very tight that it takes great effort to try to either move it or take it off. I like a bit more flexibility than that. The KAC does me fine for now, and the only reason I would choose to upgrade is that the way I hold the gun I prefer the stubby VFG’s.

I think i would rather have my TD grips tight than loose but i do hear what you’re saying.

They can really be a PITA to remove and reposition unless you use the zip ties trick. Even then on some rifles…man…you basically have to hammer them to get them onto the rail.

To the OP, what didnt you like about the TD grip?

Ive found that KAC and TD grips are great for anyone using a back stopper grip since the upper portion is very smooth and the area between the rail and the grip is transitioned nicely.

Other grips such as the bobro are a bit more angular and may not be as comfortable.

Honestly, i think your options are pretty limited here as there are really only a handful of “top tier” VFG’s.

Tangodown
KAC
Larue
Bobro

Did i leave anything out?

I didn’t like the way they felt in my hand nor the rediculous amount of work that goes into actually putting it on. When I got it on my AR it felt a tad too wide for my taste. I think that they’re well made and a good choice, just not for me.
