Why is that?
I’m worried about over penetration in my apartment. I wouldn’t suggest it to anyone. I have no ballistic data on it. I would like to get some gel and shoot through it to see what it does since it’s colder now and don’t know what it does with heavily clothed persons. And I can see a lawyer eating it up twisting it as an inhuman round to use since it’s primary purpose is not self defense.
They work fine in my personal guns, but I haven’t fed it through anything shorter than 14.5", and work guns (including 10.3/10.5) were all powered by M855, M856, or Mk262.
A properly set up 11.5 should have no issue with it, but I would try out a box before committing to a large purchase.

The 55gr TAP I use is pretty good stuff. Ive done some testing with it.
The accuracy like I said before is some of the best ammo I have shot.
The biggest problems I keep running into with selecting ammo is what can actually be found in stock, and cost.
The two I see a lot of for sale are the Speer 64gr Gold Dot and Federal 62gr Fusion.
Both are on the good Dr’s list as a barrier blind load and offer very good accuracy.
Currently loaded with BlackHills 50gr tsx, it’s the same load we use at work with great results.

I have some 75gr TAP stashed away, but I haven’t shot enough of it to rely on it.

XM193 for house. TAP 75gr for distance. Different guns, too.
Currently, XM193 is loaded in mags for the HD carbine…I’m way behind the times here. I do have some XM223SP1 that will be in those mags as soon as I get a chance to do a little testing. Also have some MK318 waiting as well.
I really wish I’d picked up more of the XM223SP1 when it was available. Probably the best buy in reasonably effective defensive ammo that I’ve seen. I may buy some of the Fusion 223 though. I have some things interfering right now, but I really want to develop my own hand load using most likely a 55gr TSX projectile.

Black Hills 77 gr 5.56 white box. ~200 rounds of it, since I shot some for testing.
I also have some XM855 on hand.

The mini makes a good car gun–if it gets stolen, you haven’t lost an expensive AR. If you have to defend against thugs, they aren’t going to be head shots at 450 meters. More like baseball pitching distance. The Mini is easily accurate enough for that, and quite reliable.

Ammo? Why blow the extra cash for el-hypo “defense” rounds? Hit a gangsta square with M193 or M855, he’ll leave you alone.

Well, let’s discuss it rationally. A highwayman who gets hit in the breadbasket with M193 out of a Mini–what’s he going to do differently than if he got hit with TAP out of a Noveske?

Are you tied in knots specifically because he has a Mini-14, or would any rifle that wasn’t exactly the same as yours have been unthinkable?
If the M193 is your choice, it’s all good. I’d say your comment “anything else is a waste of money” is what sticks in a members craw. It gets thumbs down in general from those who make their professional living studying terminal ballistics:

No doubt, the M193 or M855 is a damn bit better then throwing rocks, but having something known to have superior terminal ballistics via objective testing methods seems like $$$ well spent to me.
