What happened to that rumor about Federal cutting off HST for the gen pop?

I kept hearing about how Federal was pressuring their distributors to cut off sales to everyone except departments, any word on that?

That stupid rumor just made me finish off my dealer’s stock on 9mm 147’s…
(His shipment lasted all of a day & a half)

The guy I spoke to at ATK during SHOT had never heard of it …

Someone on mp-pistol commented that ammunitiontogo.com just received a new restocking of lots of HST and similar stuff that had been rumored to be on the “no more commercial sales” list.

I was just wondering about this today. I started a thread about it prior to shot, but it was locked.

Hopefully the Rep at shot is right.

I wonder who sits around and thinks up these rumors?

I wonder how we find them and hang them in a perpetual wedgie from the lightpole by their shorts?

Well, the rumor made me look for it…Being $23/box OTD is what really sealed the deal. It’s not like it’s ever getting any cheaper…

I don’t know. But it was sent out in an email from one of the Ammo dealers.

You could make the arguement that it was a scare tactic, but it didn’t get sent out when any of the ammo dealers were long on inventory.

I ordered 500rds of HST from ATG a week ago. Their description said that the LE dept that had ordered the ammo cancelled and then they were able to sell it to the general public. Take that however you want to.

Well I can confirm this much. Siegels Uniforms in Evansville, IN is a mid-large police supply store and they just tried to get HST.

Federal/Federals distributor wanted them to have proof that every, single box sold was going to L.E. only and Siegels said they are not going to mess with that. They sell very limited ammunition there (duty and practice ammo in the standard L.E. calibers) and would have absolutely no reason to make that story up, nor do they hang out on internet forums. The guy in charge of the guns/ammo there is a retired officer and a good friend of mine. He said he argued that this was a police supply store and that almost all customers are L.E. He said they would not accept that and refused to sell them the ammo.

My dept is by far the largest in the area and we use HST 45+P. Officers are unable to purchase this ammunition anywhere for practice or carry. We get the 40 rounds the Dept. gives us once a year and that is all we have.

So was the limitation from Federal or the distributor?

wanted them to have proof that every, single box sold was going to L.E. only

What ammo? The Big Three all limit their +p+ loadings to LE agencies only to the extent they can.

I will try to verify if it was the distributor or Federal themselves for you.

He said there was no problem getting anything else from Federal, just the HST stuff. Since all the main departments here carry Federal that’s the only brand he was stocking at the shop. He has since quit carrying ammo of any type.

I will try to get more details next time I run into him for you.

Opie – The other issued I’d want answered: is this a permanent change due to new policy, or a temporary situation due to lack of supply?

Either the distributor or manufacturer may be directing their premium JHPs to LEAs if they can’t get enough to cover everyone’s needs.

OK, I have to go in there Tues, I will try to get some clarification.

Wow, I feel like such a dunce…Someone simply went to the source and simply asked:

For those HST fans out there, you’ve probably heard that Federal is trying to take it off the open market and make it available to LEO’s only. I’ve read that in many forums and even heard it from the guys at my local gun store.

The other day I decided to send a rant to Federal about it. I received a reply today and was a bit surprised by it. They say they have no intent on barring the public from access to HST. However, due to huge demand and limited production bandwidth, they’re giving LEO’s first priority. As soon as most of the LEO backlog has been filled they say we’ll start seeing HST readily available on the market again.

Believe it… or not.

99.9% of that company is all for the second ammendment and that is not a policy. I just bought some last week.
