i think i want a few of my black plastic frames turned OD green. maybe a custom black logo on the side of an od green grip would be nice as well. any advice on who to send thees frames to or what finish to use for a durable finish on plastic?
I’ve done several in Cerakote.
Most in C-Series (Air Dry) and one in H-Series (heat cured). Both came out just fine.
The lower temperatures used for Cerakote seem to be compatible with life for Glock frames.
$75 one color, call for something more elaborate
PM me for details
As one who applies finishes for a living it has been my experience that Cerakote by NIC Industries is one of the better weapon finishes available & works very well on Glock polymer frames if the applicator performs their tasks properly. I’m not shilling for my company, but rather pointing some things out for consideration.
The H-series (heat cure) is superior to the C-series (air cure), but proper preparation, application & handling is the key to everything. It’s important to note that these materials have a relatively short shelf life, so my recommendation is to know your source & the shelf life. This is more important than you can imagine. I’ve seen expired materials from well known, reputable distributors that were obvious to be past the useful life as soon as the container was picked-up (clue: no longer liquid). Imagine buying tritium night sights that were sitting on a shelf for several years before purchase.
Storage is very important, hence we only purchase our materials direct from NIC Industries (Cerakote). I have no problem if a customer would ask that I could verify the age of the materials. Although that would be a rare request as people just don’t know. All applicators & finishers are not created equal. With all due respect to the manufacturers, the person or shop preparing the object & materials is the key to everything. An outstanding prep with properly applied rattle can top coat can quite simply be a better job than a crappy substandard prep with top-shelf materials & equipment. Ask in your area & consider the qualifications of those who give advice.
Good luck
