I know an ATF form 3 is a class III to class III dealer transfer, but what does it mean when a for sale listing states “for sale…, on a form 3”, or words to that effect?
Could it mean that the NFA item is purchased and was going to be transferred to your class III dealer and you want to sell it instead, and the new buyer’s dealer would get the transfer if sold?
Or, purchased class III item is purchased, form 3’d to your dealer, and before you send in the form 4 transfer to yourself, it’s put up for sale, and after sale it get’s form 3’d to the new buyer’s class III FFL?
It means its currently being held by a Class III/NFA dealer, and that you should only have to pay one “transfer tax” + any dealer fee your dealer charges to transfer
So it could mean a variety of things, inventory that a customer transferred in and backed out on, could be a personal “consignment” that the shop took in that was nfa, and put it in their name with a form 4 to 3, or something to the affect of factory SBRs from a rifle company being sold individually at a shop, or it means an individual who wants to sell said item has already gone through the process of transfering it to a Class III Dealers SOT, so now its on a form 3, and it would speed up the time in the process
