So I decided not to get the CMMG 16" Bull Barrel, but now I am eyeballing this
I have the opportunity to get a great deal on this and can get it quick.
I just want to start shooting.

I’d say stay away…not because the Armalite won’t handle what you are using it for, but there are better options out there for less money.
It all depends on what you want to spend. For the same money you may be able to find a Colt 6920 upper assembly…but for a little more, you can get a BCM upper assembly that is considered higher quality for the same price.
Example:

youll need a BCG and stuff, but still
Have you bothered to do any research at all? Why not get a quality BCM upper?

I understand BCM is awesome. I can get the uppers I am talking about because of a relative passing and we are (family) splitting up the goods.

Sorry for your loss. The Armalite is a mid-grade upper. It certainly isn’t as good as a Colt/BCM/DD but it is better than a DPMS/Bushmaster.
My advice is instead of asking individual questions about each item being split up, give us a total list of items available and I think the members here can lead you in the right direction.
So this relative had those uppers sitting around and you’re trying to get the best option or you’re spending inherited money and not willing to spend a couple bucks more on a better upper?

If your getting the upper for free, then go for it. Use the savings to get a BCM BCG, Aimpoint RDS, Sling and ammo. If you got to pay for it, don’t bother. Save your money.
I cant get all the uppers I can only pick one. I am not spending inherited money if so I would go with BCM.
I won’t beat a dead horse. Take the Armalite upper- sell it and then use that money to get a good BCM upper.
Great Idea thanks. There is alot of stuff I can sell. He had alot of inventory (new).
Looks like that BCM does not come with a BCG & CH. Add $200 more. Not slamming. Maybe the OP can’t / don’t want to swing $800+ for just an upper.
The Armalite upper looks pretty good actually. I only have experience with their AR10. But if you are getting a complete upper for say $400 or less I would do it and shoot the hell out of it.
He just gave you the very BEST thing to do. Now follow that advice and you will be on the “high road”. And don’t be afraid to use the “Search” feature on here. ![]()
Armalite stuff is in the middle range of quality, but that M4-style upper is obscure (basically just for LE contracts that demand it) and may not have the best resale.
I’d go through the list of options looking primarily at resale. Check prices with the usual web searches, gun auction sites, the EE here. You can get a good feel for what sells best. Sometimes mediocre quality with a good following sells well (cough Rock River cough), but generally value follows quality. Sell it, get your cash, get a BCM, DD or whatever you like after doing some research.
I am pretty sure that 200.00 is overpriced unless I am missing something.
I still don’t see 800.00 for an upper. Last I looked if he selected on of the uppers that was recommended he would be into it for about 600.00 or so.
The one upper linked above has an MI quadrail and is $649 without bcg/ch.
For a basic upper to use with handguards, $419 for standard or $499 for BFH or SS.
Add $149 for bcg and $23 for standard charging handle, and on the basic models another $20-35 for handguards depending what kind you want.
Iraqgunz posted links to four other BCM uppers.
That being said, he can get a stripped DD upper from Smartgunner for $409, add $145 or so for a BCG and $15 or so for a charging handle, and it’s still cheaper than the Armalite upper he listed.
If you’re getting a complete, free, functional, Armalite upper, take it and go shoot it. I’m as much an advocate of BCM, Daniel Defense, and Colt as anyone else, but free is free, and I’d take a damn Oly if it was free and I didn’t have anything else, and I’d spend the money I was saving for “best” on ammo and mags. I wouldn’t go to war, or even to a training class, with an un-tested Armalite, but then I wouldn’t do that with an un-tested Colt, DD, or BCM either.
A lot of opinions here, but I’m curious how many folks have used an Armalite. I’ve run one hard, loaned it out in class and no issues to report (note that some have mediocre gas key staking, which is easily remedied). Obviously Colt, BCM, DD are great choices. However, if I fell into the same deal, I would keep the upper and shoot the heck out of it. Run the gun.
I own 2 Armalite uppers, one of which is the M-4. I’ve had no issues with it and it has been dependable. Granted, I’m not carrying it every day and I’m only poking holes in paper with it. But, I figure it wll last me for the next 30 years and my kids will get it. I’m absolutely happy with it. My next barrel will also be an Armalite as well. A mid length with the A-2 front sight. I’m willing to pay the few extra dollars for the confidence. kwg
