I can possibly get one with the 16" and 10.5" barrel. I am in the process of doing the SBR nfa paperwork and thought that this might be a good option. I haven’t done any research on the MRP though b/c I figured they were a little pricey. This looks like a good deal though. Thanks for any help.
i love mine !! do a search there is a ton of info here and some great pics too .
Fantastic platform. Worked the heck out of it without any issues.
I own a few LMT MRP’s with 16", 14.5" and 10.5" barrels.
But the new 16" Piston Upper is nothing less than…SWEET!!!
LMT should be shipping the 12.5" Piston uppers soon, atleast that’s what they told me.
If you are considering LMT MRP as an SBR. Hands down…go for the 12.5" Piston and pick up the 16" for a spare.
Does anyone know how/where can I place and order for the 12.5" piston upper?
Directly from LMT…

By the way…I type too fast, LMT sells a 12" barrel and 16" Piston upper.
The only thing that makes me nervous about the MRP is that it has a special barrel correct? With all these pistons and such out there, who knows whose system is going to be the VHS and which will be the Beta.
I totally agree. Nothing is standard, and I don’t see that happening for quite awhile.
I think enough of them that I am like a kid waiting on Christmas . I have a CQB MRP 16 incoming and the wait is killing me. Its okay though its allowed me to focus on picking up some AK’s and such. They are very well made rifles and IMHO worth the wait and price.
I doubt standardization will occur unless the military adopts a design…
But I think you’d be well served by an MRP - LMT does things right in their design and testing process and if it is not right they have no problems replacing faulty gear.
Spooky
I have two of them, one in each length. I’ve set the rifles up for different purposes.
The full sized MRP was set up like this:

I’ve since changed the bipod to a Tangodown one.
The CQB is set up like this:

Both rifles now sport Magpul UBR stocks now. I just haven’t snapped new pictures in a long time (well, until now).
I bought the CQB length in the hopes that their long rumored piston design would eventually surface and I could drop it in. Well, the UPS truck showed up yesterday and I dropped in the new piston version (see above). As a DI system, both MRP uppers (along with LMT bolts and carriers) have worked properly. I don’t recall having an issue with either one. LMT makes quality stuff. I stick to LMT, Colt, Larue and Noveske for my ARs. Some may think that makes me a snob. Personally, I know it makes me the guy carrying the rifles that work properly and reliably.
With some current MRP owners upgrading with piston conversions…hell I’ve bought two 16" conversions and waiting on two 12" conversions,
some might be selling their original barrels to fund these upgrades. Today MRP barrels can be found easier than other M4 barrels and cheaper too,
either directly from LMT or on message boards.
Sad to say…with the high cost of ammo, I don’t think we will be shooting out any of these barrels like we used too…very sad.
I’m not sure its an upgrade. Its just different.
And I’m with you on that…
I ordered my MRP piston 2 weeks ago…only 22 weeks left until it arrives!
M&A has a few CQB piston uppers in stock if you want to cut the wait time down.
I have a 10.5" CQB MRP and LOVE it! I don’t really care about the “piston” craze, that has been going around. My D.I. has been perfect thus far. So, I don’t see any reason to change it. ![]()

That’s the beauty of LMTs MRP system…It gives you the choice IF YOU SO CHOOSE!!! I love my LMT Piston, but all I have to do to go DI is change barrel/BCG and there you have it!!!
Love my LMT System!!!
Yeah, I’m not down on the piston systems, I’m just not all excited about them. I don’t believe I would gain anything switching to a piston upper. That is, except 1.5" in barrel length I don’t want, and a lighter wallet.
I do like the fact that LMT is offering them though. The more options the better. Hopefully, SHOT Show 2009 will bring some exciting news about the MRP. There is talk about additional calibers being added to the platform. We’ll see.
