What buffer and spring combo do I need

For a 14.5 middy.

Start with a standard carbine spring and a H buffer, this is basically the base setup.

BTW the way there are more then a few threads dedicated to spring and buffer combos

Who made the Middy? Will you shoot suppressed? Type of ammo commonly used?

Noveske upper, no suppressor, ammo will be primarily affordable stuff

Assuming you will shoot better ammo (5.56 ball), I would go with an H buffer and the blue CS spring. If you want to use standard GI springs, you can give an H2 buffer a try.

I agree… Not sure what Noveske’s port size is, but an H buffer is a good starting point.

I have a Colt H buffer and a Colt buffer spring already so really I just wanted to see if there was a better combo to put in this other than what I have laying around. Thanks.
Also please explain blue CS Spring?

Isnt there like 5,000 posts on this???

Is the VLTOR A5 worth looking into

Yes, but you’ll need the A5 tube in addition to a new spring and buffer.

I would just start with that , then depending on how the gun likes it, might try a H2 as Grant has mentioned .

Spring Co Blue Spring, enhanced Power buffer Spring

Not so much on a 14.5 middy. If the port is any larger than .080", then the A5 would help out. I doubt Noveske would have that large a port however.

I know Noveske uses larger GPs than BCM on their middies. It’s into the .08X range.

I’d say std power White Springco CS spring and an H2.

So I should change at least one or the other of the H buffer and spring?

I wouldn’t change a thing at this point. You have the goods.

Yes, the Colt H buffer and spring generally are good to go.

If you WANTED to get another buffer, the Noveske should run fine with an H2.

Yep. I have a 14.5 middy with an .080" port that will run Herters steel cased like champ. Cycles like an A2 rifle…

So if the Noveske is in that area, it might like an H2 as well.

Remember the Noveske barrel in the BCM thread? I dont recall the exact number or if it was a fluke but that port was large.
