hey guys i’m looking into coating a sully stock and maybe a larue fug grip FDE to match magpul parts. here’s my stipulations: i want it to match as well as possible, want it to be tuff(no krylon) and it has to be in a rattle can(dont want or need a airbrush and compressor). i have never done this before, so i dont know what to expect. i would like to cook the parts to set and dry the coating but i am leary of cooking the stock, would be a shame to melt it. who has done plastic stocks before and how was it? can i use a toaster oven? or would it be safer to let it sit under a heat lamp for a few days? help!
Brownells Aluminahyde II.
Rough it wih a fine grit sandpaper and apply.
I would hang it in the attic for a few days-thing time of year might be cold though.

And I believe the match is Alumahyde II Earth Brown.
Alumnahyde 2 in coyote is a very close match for magpul fde. I let the plastic stuff sit for about a week at room temp, but it cures much faster in warmer temps. I’m in no hurry though.
Really? Because in the link I will provide below the Earth Brown is an almost perfect match with Magpul’s FDE. Coyote is slightly lighter I believe. Anyway here is the link (Scroll down to Wes1’s photos): http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=4441&highlight=alumahyde+magpul
Coyote is a bit lighter, but still very very close. Earth Brown is also very very close, but a bit darker. Pick your poison.
FWIW, my blaster with Magpul FDE and Coyote Alumnahyde 2. Guess which parts are painted.

If you guessed PMag and stubby grip, you’re right! Sure, the top rail covers too, but no attempt made to match with those.
Wow, that looks pretty good. The only way I can ever tell is from the different sheen the alumahyde gives off. Slightly shiny even with mine. I always thought their coyote was even lighter than what you have shown but I guess not
. My AR in Earth Brown looks a bit darker than that but lighting and the computers monitor can make a big difference. I’ll try and get a pic of it someday if I can ever find the wifes camera.
