What brake for a Rem 700

I am getting a Remington 700 AAC and it has the threaded barrel. The thread is 5/8-24…What brakes are out there that would match up to the barrel diameter?..I was thinking about getting the AAC brake but am undecided on which brake I would like to get.

edit: not looking for a brake that will match up exactly to the diameter…just something close.

I’d just put the AAC on there. It’s not a flush fit, but it doesn’t look odd because it’s not supposed to be a flush fit.

How would the Surefire .308 brake look?

Does anyone have pictures of the Rem700 bull barrel with a brake installed?

Here’s pappabear’s 308 5R with an AAC mount.

I installed an R&D RAD brake on my SPS tactical.

JP Enterprises makes an effective one.

I recently installed a Miculek brake using a crush washer and it’s working nicely on my 700 SPS AAC. Didn’t break the bank either.

I placed my order with Walmart today for the 700 Tactical AAC…$648, not a bad price.

Im really interested in the AAC brake or the Surefire brake…but am looking into all the other suggestions that you guys have said.

I’m trying the SJC Titan on mine.

Still a work in progress.

That Titan is effective but loud, I’ve read… Never seen on on a bolt gun.

Exactly why I went with it. Seems like no one wanted to try it even though a good many agree it’s a good brake.

This is the r&d rapid brake .860 od on my aac-sd.

If you go AAc, I prefer the BRAKEOUT. It helps with Muzzle flip a bit. The pure double chamber brake is LOUD. the Blackout gives no Muzzle benefit.

Plus you don’t notice it as a break when your shooting it… or shooting with someone who has one. It’s not very obnoxious for those obnoxiously early morning shoots!

I’m going to order one for my 700 SPS AAC SD also.

Have you picked yours up yet? If you are getting it with the Hogue overmolded stock, be prepared to make some mods or swap the stock out post haste. The Hogue stock is very flexible and easy to torque. I’m reinforcing the fore end and doing a skim bedding this weekend to see if it is salvageable. If this doesn’t make a drastic improvement, I’ll be looking into a McMillan replacement.

Im not sure of the thread pitch, but Ive had great luck with a “VIAS Muzzle Brake” on my 308 my 300wm and my 338lm. All are on Krieger #9 barrels and are flush with the contour of the barrels.

Even the 338 is a simle push into my shoulder with no flinch building heavy hits from recoil.

O yea I recently purchased a Gemtech sandstorm for my 30 cal rifles. I haven’t got the ATF paper work back yet, however the thread pitch on the VIAS and the gemtech were different Ive had to cut and re-thread my 30 cal rifles. No big deal on the 300 as the barrel was 31 inchs overall with the brake on.

“I’m going to 20 inchs OAL, I hope it shoots as good as it did”.
I have not researched the VIAS application to see if they have a thread pitch to match the Gemtech’s. I’ll have to get back to you on that. It’s my intent to run 3 gemtechs on the 3 rifles cuz Im bored and like messing with my guns. Retirement can be boring at times and expensive.

Good luck to you.

Those holland brakes are effective. Thunderous, but effective. Pappabear has one on a 300 Win Mag.

when I picked up my 700, I noticed it wasnt crowned at the muzzle…is this common with thread barrels?..should I see if I could get it crowned even though I plan to put a muzzle brake on it?

Yea Holland, brace for impact. That Mother Thumps.
