To me, an olde guy who has seen a lot and has a History/PolySci education, the entire world appears to be teetering on the verge of numerous potential disasters including nuclear attacks, land wars, revolutions, economic collapses, violent riots, etc. What are predictions for 2012?
Domestically:
Chicago is really going to regret having the NATO and G8 meetings this summer. You will see a bunch of hipster, spirit of '68 wannabes getting thumped on worldwide TV. Thanks to who the mayor is, they will give them too much leeway to start and it will be to nasty to stop in a nice way once rolling.
The Internet is going to be flakey as the Anon and their script kiddie followers ramp up their anti-information mining.
If we have a hot summer, look for rolling black outs as the EPA ‘gree’ regs start to bite into the base power generation. Mini riots to follow most of those as the zombies get frisky. I personally do not see us having a hot summer, think it will be cold and damp.
Mini- to full on riots at both political party’s conventions as the above mentioned spirit of ''68 goofballs go full retard.
Obama retains his job and continues to rule by EO and regulatory fiat. The R’s candidate sucks so bad that he has negative coat-tails and Senate stays D and the House barely remains R.
Oh don’t forget the celebratory mini-riots after BHO’s win.
1.25M people drop out of the workforce per quarter. We continue to go in debt $3 trillion a year.
Congress continues to violate the Congress by not passing a budget, and by caving to BHO’s illegal rule by fiat.
Internationally:
Eurozone goes splat. The French and German governments try to form another version of it without the PIIGS. German people hold their own mini-riot demonstrations against this as they do not want to get stuck holding the bag twice.
Greece begins to resemble Mexico, in that you have secure tourist areas and the rest is no-go for non-Hellenics.
Iran gets hot and horny thanks to Russia and China’s continued support and goes for broke by making a strike at a CVBG. POTUS Worthless sounds like Ron Paul and says we are to blame.
This gives the ChiComs a tacit approval of their grab for Taiwan. They begin it with a pseudo blockade, claiming to be searching vessels for WMD parts, when it is mainly meant to be a deterrent against people trading with Taiwan.
Chavez croaks giving us a nice low level intercine war in Venezula. Pushing oil up a nitch or two.
Pakistan and India start pressuring us to decide which one we ar backing.
The Arab Spring continues to turn into Sharia Summer.
All of this could get even worse if some of the climate predictions begin to kick in and we see real temp drops, severly shortening the Canadian, Northern US, Ukrainian, and Russia growing seasons.

Iran will probably strike at the shipping lanes.
Isreal will hit Iran with in the next few months.
Syria will be utter chaos through the summer. and will use Isreals strike on Iran as an excuse to attack Isreal.
Germany is probably going to attempt to pull out of the EU.
Great britian will have more rioting.
As for us I see more racial attacks, flash mobs, rioting, and probably some very severe storms this summer.

You clearly don’t have a clue as to the real situation down there. The Islas Malvinas belong to Argentina. The British government, in its all-knowing imperialistic wisdom has militarized the situation once again, and is pushing for war.
The British “control” the Islas, about as much as they “controlled” the colonies in the Americas in 1770.

Israel vs the rest of the Middle East breaks out…who knows where it goes from there. Either someone wins real quick, or the entire world gets dragged into another world war…

An old cliche, “only fools and prophets predict.” Conjecture as to what may happen in 2012…who knows ? Simple suggestion, prepare for worst possible scenarios, then have back up plans 
Things will get worse, before they get better. 
I was getting ready to type something like this.
I believe you’re going to win on the accuracy of your predictions but we all still lose!
However, I believe we’ll see market upheavel beginning in the late spring.
I also feel there will be a few natural disasters that will make folks uneasy because of the stupid 12/21 thing, which BTW will come and go like the Y2K fiasco.
We only have to worry about world events until 12/21/2012 anyway so heres my tripled layered shiny side out brain bucket predictions.
World conditions will deteriorate to a point were the major players will either have a knock down drag out fight with conventional weapons before all will sue for peace just before the launch codes are authenticated or they all realize that world war is a messy business which has no winers and they tighten the leashes on the kids causing the ruckus in the first place.
I would predict 20 years of peace and prosperity after the above events until problems over oil supply’s gets the major powers chest pounding once again.
Either way I’m 100% sure that ET is getting tried of waiting for us to blow each other to hell so they can move in uncontested and will kick off a take over bid on July 4th and continuing until December 21st.
