What are my options for a 5.56/7.62 can?

I know AAC has the SDN6, and Silencerco has the Specwar. What else is out there? I’m looking for QD attachments, too which is what drew me to the AAC.

Anything on the horizon I should be aware of?

The Saker 762 would be on my high priority list if I didn’t already own an AAC762. They share the same mount as AAC and have their own mount and the machining/design in that Saker can is amazing. I kind of wish I owned one personally and I am a big AAC fan.

I thought the Saker was only in 5.56.

It is. The 7.62 isn’t alive quite yet and, as far as I know, hasn’t even been available to consumers.

OP, I know Gemtech has a few options if you’re looking for a QD 7.62 can.

I see that several of the YHM .30 cans will also work on a 5.56 rifle.

I went with the AAC 762 SDN-6, and would like to tell you all about it, but I’m still waiting on the NFA paperwork to come back, some 10 months after submission. In terms of cross-compatibility, effectiveness in various calibers and the ready availability of quality mounts, it just seemed to make the most sense to me.

The SDN-6 works well on a lot of platforms, +1 on this.

i have been kicking around of getting a griffen recce 7 to fit this role.

However the only thing holding me back at this point is I havent heard it, and lack of user reviews.

Any particular reason you went with AAC over SureFire (762SOCOM) or KAC (762QDC)?

Given my usual affinity for KAC and Surefire product, that is a good question.

In my case, it was because of availability, price and the fact that the NRW upper I was planning to use as my primary (300 BLK with a 51T mount) was already configured for/proven with it.

I’ve more or less run out of time, and that upper is now being sold off, but the suppressor itself will obviously still meet other needs if the stamp comes through over the next couple of weeks. If not, then I guess that will end up being something of a wash, too.

Had I been going caliber-specific (5.56) at the time, I’d likely have opted for the Surefire Mini.

My SDN6 works great on various 5.56 and 7.62 rifles.

I believe it is. Called silencer co the other day asking about an upgrade to my existing swr can and that’s the impression I got. But it is the biggest development in the silencer world as the OP had requested.

The new KAC cans aren’t out yet, but it’s very soon. I’m waiting on an invoice for their complete line of cans around early November, from this years SHOT Show.
I’m also a fan of the Surefire cans, I like the legacy models. There’s just not a whole lot of feedback yet on their SOCOM line.
The SDN-6 is a known available product that’s been used a lot on multiple platforms with success.
As for the others? Time will tell, I’d bet they’re great. Until folks get real use, it’s hard to say?

The ballad of the form 4 sung many times by many different folks. Only difference is the chorus lines are getting longer and longer …

That is the can I’m ordering.

Right, and when you are battling a terminal illness, a 15-month NFA wait might as well be 100 years. I don’t have the luxury of waiting it out any longer.

I went with the Surefire SOCOM 7.62 Mini. My reasoning was that it would work on my 5.56 gun, was from a known quality manufacturer, previous excellent experience with Surefire CS, fair price, and it was in stock. NFA goodies are items that you’re pretty much wedded to, so I wanted to get the best possible quality I could. Primary host for this will be a DD MK18, but I know at some point in the future I’ll pick up a 7.62 battle rifle. I just sent of the paperwork this last week, so I have no experience to relate, yet.

Awh damn Chief… I’m sorry

If you’re in Dallas I would let you hammer away on my 762.

I got a YHM phantom LT. Probably won’t see my stamp til this time next year though… So no review for it.

It’s all good – the present timeline on the SDN-6 should still work out (it’s due back any day now); it’s the associated Form 1 SBR stuff that won’t really stand any chance of coming through in time.

I’ve no issue with the larger circumstances in my case, but these artificial NFA delays as a result of inefficiency and bureaucratic apathy are pretty sad. Name another government agency that could take a year-plus to approve a special tax document/stamp and get away with it, right?

I remember clearly when three months was considered fairly rude, but still a tolerable delay. Nine, twelve … fifteen months? I don’t even think the VA could screw up a simple administrative action quite that bad – not looking for any testimonials on that one, though.
