As more and more folks stoke the fires of discontent, call into question the legitimacy of the government, and urge people to “take back their country,” how many tragedies like this are going to play out around the country?
Two police officers slain, two sheriff’s department officers wounded and a man and his 16 year old son dead. A memorial website for Jerry Kane (the man alleged to have shot the officers) and his son is questioning the story provided by law enforcement officials, stating “I-40 sounds like a good ole boy stretch of highway, where if they [law enforcement] stop you, and they already don’t like you, you could get killed.” And the commentary is signed “John Galt,” the principal character from Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged?

Kane’s common-law wife is already invoking the memory of Randy Weaver and Ruby Ridge, raising questions about the actions of law enforcement and castigating the media for portraying Jerry Kane as an extremist with anti-government views and ties to white supremacist groups.
So who was this guy and what compelled him and his son to murder to police officers with AK-47s during what police officials state was a traffic stop, drive off and later die in another gun battle with sheriff’s department officers in a Wal-Mart parking lot?
I have a sickening feeling we are going to see more tragic incidents like this one and, unfortunately, those who foment rage and incite violence all to often leave others to pay the ultimate price.
