I don’t usually wear gloves unless it is cold out. If your going to wear them practice with them. I went to a class with two guys who each had brand new cool guy gloves on and both of them managed to slam a magazine in their weapon upside down jamming it up pretty good.
What kind of glove are you wearing? Looks like some kind of mitt?
Sweet! Its always nice to have a fun day at the range!
All of these types of rifles will get hot when shooting so that’s normal. I do wear gloves for match days and range days so that the feel is consistant for me. I don’t wear the big bulky armored gloves as most are not sized properly for me and are thicker than I need. My favorites are a $9 set of Speedline Utility gloves from Lowes. They’re light and breathable yet tough. Plus they still allow me to “feel” things so as to not make me ham fisted and clumsy like thick gloves can do.
Looks like you’ve invested a lot of money and your rifle and gear for this to new to you. Nothing wrong with buying good stuff, just make sure you invest in some good training.
Have fun and be safe! Thanks for the update and pics.
I’m glad you had great success with it. What kind of rifle is it?
I wear M-Pact gloves by Mechanix. They’re great gloves and I was turned onto them by another thread on this forum. They’re highly praised on here. http://www.mechanix.com/m-pact-glove
Good lookin stick there, glad you had fun. I 2nd usmcvet’s vote to practice with gloves as part of your routine. As far as what type of gloves, my favorites are the original Mechanix gloves from the auto parts store or wal-mart. The’re light weight, cheap enough and still give good tactile sensation. The’re available in subdued colors as well if you can find them.
Just understand, that what you just did with this post was roughly the equivalent of showing up at the first day of freshman pre-med with a white coat and a stethoscope on, asking about the details of a spinal surgery. No one’s going to beat your ass, but you look like a :jester: You might want to concentrate on learning how to shoot from the ground up before you start worrying about cool-guy shit like Mechanix gloves and IFAKs and carrying spare parts on your body just to fill up a pouch.
ETA: And what you did with those 500 rounds, most likely, was to start setting up bad habits and reinforcing them, thereby increasing the time you’re going to have to spend later undoing all the shit you ‘taught’ yourself, assuming you actually want to learn it correctly. Total waste of money - get the gun and some basic support gear, and spend the rest of the money you spent on the cool-guy paintballer shit on training.
Since I don’t have a bunch of cool guy gear I can’t comment on that. What I will comment on is about gloves. Like Quiet Matt I use Mechanix gloves. They are a great all purpose glove, although I do tend to use the Original 0.5 Glove. It’s the same as the standard except it has a slightly thinnner palm material allowing for a better “feel” which I prefer. I wear gloves probably 75-80% of the time during a work week which range from Nitrile gloves when handling optics to Mechanix gloves when moving ordnance. Whether it’s riding my motorcycle to/from work or while at work, I am always wearing gloves. So I have come to feel almost naked when not using gloves and the same for eye protection come to think of it.
what ever on the gloves. I’ve used the mechanix, 5.11’s, and some cheap brand form Walmart (wells lamont I think). All of these have been thin enough to feel but thick enough to allow handing of hot weapons. The key for me is that I need to be able to feel things. Also I used them all the time for training, matches, and the such…
