I know there were certainly problems, and terrible things happened in the 50s - especially in the south, but we also weren’t the rabidly racist KKK nation many would have everyone believe.
If we all hated black people so much Dorie Miller wouldn’t have been awarded a Navy Cross and he certainly wouldn’t have been sent around the nation to sell war bonds as a national hero.
Not to quibble, but the Brits lost less than a million total in WWI.
