Well, THIS Has Never Happened Before...

And since it’s Memorial Day, the first black serviceman to be decorated during WWII was for actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor. I know there were certainly problems, and terrible things happened in the 50s - especially in the south, but we also weren’t the rabidly racist KKK nation many would have everyone believe.

If we all hated black people so much Dorie Miller wouldn’t have been awarded a Navy Cross and he certainly wouldn’t have been sent around the nation to sell war bonds as a national hero.

Not to quibble, but the Brits lost less than a million total in WWI.

Anyway, I’m pretty damn happy being born when I was ('69) I guess I’m the eternal optimist, or maybe I’m just a realist, but I can recognize that there has been bad stuff in every decade in American history and much it has been far worse than the 2000’s.

Well I stand corrected, the total number of KIA was 956,703 via Google. I made the mistake of hearing the number 1 Million (obviously that was rounded) somewhere for a battle but now IIRC it was 100K for a single battle. Now I have to brush up on my WWI pre America’s entry.

It’s still a staggering amount of lives lost. Nothing compared to what the Russians have lost in both the World Wars.
