Welcome home.
Very thankful he’s coming home.
And I look forward to the day when ALL our troops return home from Afghanistan.
Best news I’ve read all day!!! Welcome home sarge!
Not to take anything away from the obvious positive news that his release brings, but wasn’t his “disappearance” under rather questionable circumstances? Like something the military just might look into now that he’s back in their hands?
(caveat: not insinuating anything traitorous, just from what I read at the time there seemed to be a discipline problem with him)
Are deserters still considered POW’s? Just a guess, but I would think he will be facing court-martial in the near future and then Leavenworth. And when in the hell did we start negotiating with the Taliban for prisoner exchanges?
The prisoners that will be exchanged for Bergdahl are Mohammad Fazl, Mullah Norullah Noori, Mohammed Nabi, Khairullah Khairkhwa, Abdul Haq Wasiq. They were en route to Qatar on Saturday.

I would’ve found a way to microchip their asses to soon be followed by a Hellfire on said hind-quarters.
Seriously, unless I’m confusing guys here, 5 years ago the media was on and on about this guy leaving his post (without his weapon) and getting captured. Now the spin is that he was captured after completing his guard duty one evening and he is a POW?
Something about being butthurt about an ass-chewing he received from his squad leader. I believe he also had written home with anti-war sentiments (which he is certainly entitled to espouse; just setting the circumstances).
Since neither of you really know anything based off your posts (speculating), how bout just sitting at your Internet Judges Bench and let the military courts handle the situation.
Whatever the situation is.
If I recall, Bergdahl was on guard duty, and at shift change, he just walked away into the desert. He was captured shortly thereafter. I am happy for his family but perhaps the events regarding his capture need to be examined. The 5 gitmo prisoners for the exchange are some really bad characters and I hope we take them out in short order.
You’re right, I don’t know all the details about this case. But the events of him leaving his post, getting captured, spending 5 years in captivity with a hostile force, and then getting traded for 5 shitbags from Gitmo have me seriously questioning the motives here.
No one knows what his mental state was then or now.
I am sure he feels bad so we can’t blame him for anything he did.
Lots of people are speculating about Bergdahl’s motives and actions without being able to substantiate their claims. How are these comments deemed appropriate for a member of our military, or anyone else for that matter, but not for a thread involving a police officer?
Well, glad to see he’s back regardless if the circumstances for the time being.
That said, the timing seems… Peculiar…

Nothing peculiar about it. Zero needed a rescue type headline.
I did read about it when it happened and several times since. I may have been paraphrasing the exact “accusations” but they weren’t my own creations. I don’t think the dude’s a Bobby Garwood but I guess the military courts will figure that out, huh?
Unless Obama squelches it (which as CiC I assume he could do), you probably haven’t heard the last of this.
Since we’re speculating what should the military courts do? What charges could there be? Why is he automatically being thrown into court? I haven’t seen anything officially from DOD on any crimes he committed. Yet the thread is less than 20 posts deep and people are already throwing him into criminal status.
I think I was pretty careful about my wording:
“…not insinuating…”
“…might look into…”
“I guess…”
“…you probably…”
I’m not leveling charges; I’m repeating things I’ve read about the incident. Please tell me you haven’t heard similar? I don’t think anyone’s suggesting hanging the guy. It’s just that what is known about the circumstances are, IMHO, worth looking into.
What is KNOWN is that he walked off of his FOB and into “Indian country”. The “why” of it needs to be known, especially since we just traded 5 verifiably dangerous pieces of shit for him and potentially risked SpecOps guys’ lives during the tradeoff.
