I am looking to start slow jogs with inclined up and other workouts with a weighted vest. I used to hit the home treadmill with a ruck sack when I could not hit the gym or had child care issues. I mainly want to switch to a vest because I want it to mimic my work environment more. One feature I am looking for is one that can be pulled tight enough to restrict my lungs expanding fully. When I run at work I feel like this slows me and causes shortness of breath more than the weight of equipment does. So I just want to try and adjust my body to it. I have looked at a few brands online but I am having trouble picking one out as most seem really cheap or really Gucci.
I have been using a 50lb. weight vest from weightvest.com for 5yrs. Have used in in snow, heavy rain, etc. Still holding up great. The 50lb. V-Force is extremely well made.
The vest can be tightened up to restrict breathing if so desired. I started with 0lbs. and added 2lb. weights as I was able. I would strongly recommend doing plenty of lower back exercises so the vest doesn’t cause lower back probs. Don’t let the previous sentence worry you. I will restate; carrying a heavy pack, weight vest, etc. can lead to lower back pain/injury if you go too fast, too heavy, too soon.
Take it somewhat slow and let your body get used to the weight. I LOVE using a weight vest.
