Weight of Your Carbine

My LMT weight 7.5lbs with all necessary accessories on it. If you are of shape, carrying this weight all day in class can wear you down.

What do consider necessary on your rifle to keep the weight down?

Is that an HK mag? I can’t tell, if it is, those are heavier than the USGI or magpul mags, so you can cut some weight there. I would ditch the x3 magnifier…If you want a new stock the CTR from magpul is pretty light also. And add good sling, I’m sure you have one as I see the mounting points, just didn’t see it attached so didn’t want to assume. Moving the Aimpoint towards the butt may help with weight and balance too if/when you take the magnifier off. I think everything else is g2g, wouldn’t ditch anything else. NICE RIFLE btw!

The more you carry it the less you notice it, I know thats not practical CONUS but I got pretty used to mine after several 6+ month stints carrying it 24/7

I hold being physically prepared / in shape as just as important as being tactically prepared, more so on many days because I think the average american is in the greatest danger from health related hazards but thats just my opinion, YMMV.

FYI, I’m a big crossfit fan  20-30 min of suck per day!

Good luck!

Switching from an M962 and a CompM2 to an M600 and a T-1 saved me 3/4 of a pound.

That gun configured like that weighs only 7.5 lbs? I’m finding that somewhat hard to believe. Here’s some other configurations to compare to.

5 lb. 1 oz. (without magazine):

Dude!

You didn’t pass on a single aftermarket gadget did you?

I think the paint in the lettering on the lower and the KNS pins are what pushed you over the top on the weight scale!

Where’s your light and sling?

Nice rig, but that comes in at only 7.5 #s? Also, I don’t see a light or sling, must-haves in my book.

Have you run that gun hard?

You could lose the VFG. Its not needed.

More “rifle P.T.”!

Since this photo was taken I’ve added a G2 light. My wife currently has a BM M4 in it’s basic config. I was a little suprised in the weight increase on my LMT, it feels like it is 2 pounds heavier, though I don’t have a scale for exact weights. It is not a big problem when carrying in the field and everything I have on it I feel is necessary, the light has been a big help when going after coyotes at night.

You might want to re weigh your rifle. Theres no way that thing is 7.5lbs will all the stuff you got on it.

This is my lightest build, it weighs 7.1lbs without a light and sling. Theres no way your rifle is .4lbs heavier than mine with all the stuff you got on it.

That LMT seems like it would be about 8.5 - 8.75lbs. but i can run a set up without the magnifyer and the kgrip, that would drop it some more. just my 2 cent

Heres my stag weighing in at 8lbs. 1.3 oz. hope this gives someone an idea what your rifle could weigh up to with added accessories on it, the pmag in the pic is empty. just my 2 cents worth.

This is a RRA lower with LMT upper. As you see it, the weight is 8.04 lbs without mag (but with two spare 123 Lithium batteries in the MIAD). Taking off the rather heavy Surefire and mount, drops it down to 7.58 lbs. I’m sure that a lighter torch, BUIS and something like a T-1 Aimpoint, or even no optic, would drop the weight further. But, it is unnecessary for my purposes. The empty M-1 rifle is something like 9+ lbs for Pete’s sake and millions of guys carried those through a couple of wars. I’m not going to moan about a much lighter AR that is meant for HD and has almost four times the capacity, better aiming system, ergonomics and a light to boot.

I used to get a kick out of guys pissing and moaning about how much a M16A1 with a M203 weighed…
While I stood there with a M60 slung over my shoulder.
They’d whine and cry about how much their ruck weighed while mine had the same stuff in it plus I had a spare barrel or a tripod or pintle and T&E or more than one of them or all of them.
Oh God, what I wouldn’t have given for a 203.

Keep in mind the mag is empty.

I weighted this rifle on a bathroom scale. So it might be off. Let see if I can find a true reading on a regular scale.

I do have VTAC sling and Surefire 900A, but that will add more weight.

Thanks for some of your suggestions.

As a fan and owner of AK-style weapons, I don’t really notice the weight of AR pattern rifles. All of my AR-15s are lighter than, say, a VEPR K.
