Weapons Light Recommendations "Lightweight"

Just curious if you guys have any “Lightweight” weapons lights that you are happy with and can recommend and why? I am wanting to keep from bulking up a weapon so light weight is what I’m after but of coarse I still want the light to shine well and be reliable. I saw one on a Sig 556 that I really like but haven’t seen a review on it yet. It was relatively small and had a strobe feature that would be very distracting for the un invited house guest. Let me know what ya’ll have. Thanks,
Ron.

For this build my goal was to keep weight to an absolute minimum yet I had to have a good light. I went with a Surefire G2 with a Malkoff M60 LED drop-in in an Elzetta FSB mount.

Lightweight, or cheap?

A Surefire X300 is under 4 oz. and all you need is something like an MI FSB mount to make it work.

+1 for the x300. That little sucker is bright! I don’t own a personal ‘tactical’ carbine yet (just a range toy for now), but I use the x300 on my duty pistol and will buy another one when I do set up a fighting rifle…

I bought the 6p and the G2 at the same time (both LED) and decided on the G2 as it was lighter. The 6p is either getting sold, kept for another build, or put in the parts box for a while.

with that being said, I like the G2!

X300 or Procyon.

The X300 is the top flashlight IMHO right now.

It comes damn close to a G2LED with an aftermarket bulb which is less than half the price and with only a several ounce penalty (including the mount).

No matter what light you choose, I’d say that 90% of them are within maybe 3-4 ounces of each other. I’d make overall brightness & price a greater priority than weight.

The SureFire M951 Millennium Universal Tactical 6V Weapon Flashlight System

Got a deal on it making it the best choice.

The Surefire X300 or Scout light are the best “Lightweight” illumination options available, and they are better than many bigger 9v light options out there. IMHO, a strobe feature is completely overrated on a fighting carbine, and can be more of a distraction to the shooter/operator than a benefit if not used properly.

I use the X600 but would use an X300 if I could have a decent pressure pad on it rather than the toggle.

What is the X600? Tryed to google it and nothing…

They have the XT07 switch for the X300/X200…

The Scout light. IIRC it is six ounces, twice that of the X300, with roughly the same output. The mount is better (I use LaRue mounts) but it is heavier. I don’t use tape switches at all, ever. I like pads. Fewer ADs on the light.

Don’t bother with a tape switch. For HD purposes the X300, Procyon XTI and new ??? (I can’t find the ad right now but it is a well-known brand who just updated this style weapon light to aluminum housing and 135 Lumen LED). Lights are so much improved these days that even the little X300-style lights are superb for HD/CQC applications.

The Streamlight TLR-1 just got an upgraded lamp assy. Is that the one you’re referring to?

That’s the one. There are several good options on the market today. For my AR I have a Surefire 6PD with a Malkoff LED upgrade in a LaRue QD mount. I feel like I could easily use one of the handgun-style lights on my AR for CQC purposes that’s how good they have become. If I were LEO or military then something more robust might be warranted. YMMV.

My Wife’s is running the MI Light rail with VLTOR Scount mount and E2D LED. Fantastic combination, but not the lightest outright.

I have been looking at the Procyon and the new lamp’ed TRL-1.

A G2LED and a VTAC mount should be plenty light (mostly plastic).

Otherwise, any good pistol light should serve you well too. I’ve got a TLR-1 on my SBR and I’ve got no complaints about it.

A SF G2 in a VTAC mount goes real far for not a lot of dough.
Little upgrades here and there will give longer run-time, more output, more secure mounting, better shock resistance, etc, but really the beauty is the simplicity and effectiveness of the base-line concept.

The most significant issue is the length of the setup, depending on mounting choice and grip preference.

For a little more money the X300 type lights give excellent performance in a very short and relatively thin package that makes them a great choice for mounting the switch closer to the muzzle- which is a bit of a downfall of the larger lights depending on VFG placement in relation to mounting limits and grip preference.

Streamlight TLR1. 135 lumens and only 4 ounces. Nice thing is not needing a separate mount.
