Weapon Profiles?

I would like to propose an idea for a new thread - “weapon profiles.”

Every site seems to have “picture threads” of members’ rifles, but most of the posts in such threads are just that - photos that don’t tell much (if anything) useful about the weapon. For example, I am often left wondering how much the rifle weighs, what it’s intended purpose is, and how satisfied the owner is with the set up, etc.

Based on this, I believe a “weapons profile” sticky thead would be much more useful to those looking for ideas, to see what others are doing with their rifles and how satisfied the owner is with their set up. Each post would have to include certain information, such as;

  1. make of upper and lower receiver
  2. a full list of all upgraded parts
  3. a full list of all accessories added to the rifle
  4. weight of rifle as modified
  5. statement of intended use
  6. short review of how well the rifle/modifications are meeting the owner’s expectations/needs
  7. illustrative photos

I am sure there are other points that should be included in the profile that I am not thinking of. The lead post in the thread would include the full list of points that must be included in each profile, and perhaps even a format that each profile should conform to. I believe these “profiles” would be far more useful than the typical '“picture thread.”

Let me know what you think of this idea.

I think it’s a pretty good idea.

Some of us have posted similar threads about our own setups. What might work better would be something similar to the “Stud Board” that they have on Lightfighter, although with perhaps some stricter rules and guidelines.

Here is mine, with the detailed writeup several posts in.

Rob, plenty of good info in your thread. Perhaps a “Weapons Profile Forum” for threads just like yours as an alternative idea? Being able to easily find such info on a variety of rifles would IMO be a great resource.

  4. She’s not light. Just under 8lbs, but it keeps it steady for longer range shots and follow ups.

  5. Built it as a multi-purpose carbine, that would be lighter and handier than my varminter, steady enough for good shot placement for predator sized targets out to 300yds, and manueverable enough for some multi-gun matches.

  6. Overall the carbine has been met expectations pretty well. It is a bit heavier than it needs to be. It could swing a bit faster and stop a bit faster between targets, but the weight is nice if I need the carbine to be steady, so I don’t know if I really want to lighten it up much.
