I was curious if anyone out there has put their light pad switch on top of their MOE handguards and if they had any issues with heat afterwards. I placed the pad where Magpul recommends but I am having trouble getting the pad to activate due to holding the rifle with a C grip. Placing the pad on top would make activating the switch much easier with my thumb on top but Magpul does recommend it because the heat shield doesn’t cover there. I want to go ahead and make the move but I don’t want the adhesive strip melt onto the gas tube after firing. Here is a pic for SA but I’m sure most are familiar with the setup. Thanks
If you run any serious volume that glue will melt and the pad will fall right off.
Have you thought about switching to a pressure tail cap? I’ve found them to work a million times better than the pressure pads.
Absolutely, after using tape switches for years I took some advice off this forum and went to the tail cap. Tape switches fall off, cords get snagged, and are just a total PITA. The only exception I could possibly see myself using is an offset light mount on the 3:00 rail with a rail mounted tape switch at 12:00 and zip tied cord. But that’s a lot of added complexity for no real gain.
Once I switched to the tail cap method I never looked back. If you’re a righty, they work especially nice if you put a stubby vertical grip on and mount the light at 10:00 activating it with the thumb break method (pretty much c-grip). Many others use the C grip and activate the light at the 2:00 position though.
I think I’ll take it off then. I had to squeeze excessively hard to activate it which doesn’t seem worth the effort. Better off just hitting the button and being done with it.

Play around with it and see what works. That tail cap being offset may put the button out of reach for you in that position. Does it rotate?
It does rotation but it would cause the seal to the battery to not be tight all the way.

I messed around with the light cap and it actually does rotate. I’m pretty sure I’m going to remove the pressure switch.

something like that would be ideal. Impact Weapons Components makes lots of different mounts that help with your situation.
I recommend ditching the tape switch and just running the tailcap.
I use tape switches with rails, but i had a similar issue with my magpul handguard and a scout light, and i moved on.
IWC is great for what you seek. I’m a fan of their products.

That looks great, thanks

The Mossie Midnight Mount

I have an Armalite M15 Mid-length Carbine and wanted to add an Elzetta light. I had the stock hardguards from Armalite but I wanted to mount in the side of my handguard so I bought a Magpul Mid-length handguard and also the Magpul Illumination kit.

Recently switched back to the push button from the tape switch… Sure is a lot easier to use and seems a lot harder to turn on the light by accident.
