I’ve been looking at lights to put on my rifle. I thought I had my mind set on the Inforce HWL HSP with the momentary on, but I watched a couple videos and read a couple reviews of people saying they had many problems with them. So I’ve started looking at the Surefire X300 Ultra. I see some people mounting them directly on top of their handguard, and that’s what raises my question. Does anybody do that and have issues with it distracting you of your red dot? Like I said, the light would be a Surefire X300 Ultra and the optic is an EOTech XPS2.
Also, take note that the Inforce WML now has the momentary only function built into it standard (by flipping the toggle) and can have the strobe function disabled as well.
If you are simply looking for a light for navigation an/or in home use only, or just simply cannot stand anything in your sight picture, there’s also the Mission First Tactical Torch light that’s only like .4" high, but only 20 lumen of keychain led light (for the double white led model).
Surefire X300, and Aimpoint in an absolute co-witness mount, like your Eotech, and no problems. Between the fixed DD front sight I use on that rifle and shooting with my thumb over the top of the hand guard at times, there is no difference from the light with sight interference. You don’t search or move while looking through your sight, and when you’re shooting, both eyes are open. So even if there is minimal difference vs a light at 11 o’clock and a folding front sight, I don’t think that there is enough of a difference to realistically matter between the two.
I’m running this setup through a Frank Proctor performance carbine course in a couple weeks, so we’ll see. Maybe after that I’ll hate it.

in the real world all sights are run up and larry says he would also I only use d.d fixed front and back except on a s.p.r. can get the rear sight up but not as critical as in a crack house at 03:00 when the red dot goes
I run a X300U at the 1200 position on two of my rifles. One has an Aimpoint Pro and the other is a ACOG TA02. No problems with either set-ups and I love how it’s completely ambidextrous without any tape switches.
I have tried many of the 12 o’clock light setups including the Streamlight TLR-1, X300, Inforce WML, and Rosch SL-1. All of them have worked well for me in their intended roles with Eotechs and 1-4x optics.
Of these setups, I actually liked the Rosch SL-1 the most due to the very lightweight and innovative design.
X300U at 12:00 is a great setup. You may want to swap your XPS2-0 for an EXPS2-0, or add a lower 1/3 cowitness riser. With the standard height Eo the light at 12:00 will indeed occlude some of your sight picture.
I used an accupoint in an LT104 with a DD fixed front and a X300U for many months, You,ll see the whole thing at 1x, minor ghost at 2, 3x and almost nothing at 4x
I set up the issued patrol rifles for my small police department. In 2012 we put out 6 16" rifles with momentary only WMLs at 12 oclock. In 2014 we issued 26 11.5" suppressed rifles with WML-Xs at 12 oclock. No problems with either model, all are going strong. The cost of the Inforce is an advantage over the X400. We use mostly Aimpoints but also have Eotechs and ACOGs. The 12 oclock mount works fine I think you would be happy with either model.
