"We the People" NFA petitions

$200 is irritating and so is the wait but I agree with IG & Scott, let sleeping dogs lay. When this was enacted $200 was a LOT of money. I would hate to see them adjust it for inflation. Being the gray man is helpful. We don’t need to draw attention to ourselves.

No shit. Imagine a $3321 tax stamp for your SBR.

That would keep many of us on the sideline.

This is a not a good idea. Only bad can come from putting civilian ownership of title-2 firearms in the spotlight.

Agreed. But I’d piss myself with excitement if the $200 tax, or the approval period, or both went away. Looks like the petitions have all they need, wonder what the process is for this/the timeline?

Ill say it up front I don’t own an NFA firearm being active makes that tough and costly. What I would like to see and I personally think is more likely to happen is for the Supreme Court to rule that it is the states rights. It would at least make things easier for me when I get back home to Idaho.

I actually talked to a pro-gun guy in Colorado government about a better way to take care of NFA at the state level. Make NFA write-offs like by CLEOs like CCW sign-offs. Make it shall-sign unless they can come up with a reason.

Lots of adavantages.
-It is done state-by-state so there is not a big fight at the national level.
-It doesn’t cut down on govt revenue and might even lead to more revenue.
-It doesn’t change who can and can’t get the items.
-Get some stories done about how it saves children’s hearing and makes ranges easier to live by.
-It gets us more in line with European gun laws, and that is something to aspire to isn’t it?
-You might even be able to get it crafted into changes in CCW shall-issue laws.

I agree taking this fight into the national arena just begs to get things f’ed up. Trusts will be the first thing to go, increased fees will be the second.

I am somewhat confused? How does this help you when you get back to Idaho? Idaho doesn’t have any NFA restrictions I am aware of.

We pay $200 like everyone else it would be nice if they would remove the tax is all I am saying.

** correct me if I am wrong but paying the tax stamp is one of the that we are talking about right?**

Not to nitpick but I came up with $3386 using the .Gov inflation calculator here: http://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm

For those who are interested in seeing your Constitutional rights shredded by Rep. Charles Rangel you can watch the FOPA session here: http://youtu.be/a6Mx2UcSEvQ

 Well, different calculator but the point absolutely remains. Nothing good whats so ever will come from this, mark my words. The only impact this will have is a negative one. Now I am no anti-NFA prick for sure:

Would I love to order a 14.5" M4 upper for my spare lower and not worry about it? For damn sure.

Would I love to chop my Izhmash AK-101 to an AK-102, without hassle or wait? Shit, I have the proper gas block and muzzle device straight from Russia via my last trip to Ukraine sitting in my workshop right now.

Would I love to send out my Tula AKS-74U kit to be built and only have to wait on return shipping? HELL YEAH!

Is it EVER going to happen? Not a snowball’s chance in hell.

The tax is set at the federal level and as far as I know only Congress can change that.

We are all paying the tax at the moment, so I am still a little confused by your post.

Are you saying it would be easy for you if we just didn’t have to pay the tax?

Then most NFA will be banned in most states.

The Bill of Rights are universal rights guaranteed to all US citizens. It is not a state vs. federal issue.

Guys,

I would love to do away with the NFA tax and all the silly requirements, but its’ not going to happen. At least until I become President or Secretary of the Treasury.

People that are bringing this issue up are playing with fire. How would you feel if they did address this issue and then suddenly Congress realized that there is a tax here that hasn’t been increased since it’s inception? And then they do something really novel like raise the tax to 1000.00 per item or some shit like that? How many people will be building SBR’s and suppressors at that point?

Not many. We are constantly gaining ground for the most part except for lost cause states. We have Castle Doctrine laws in many states, CCW in almost every state and we have been fortunate that we haven’t had any serious talk about banning “assault weapons”.

All of that could change. And if my ability to purchase NFA items was restricted or curtailed because of some shit like this- it ain’t going to be the anti-gunners that I am pissed at.

Yeah in a nutshell… if I had it my way civilians could own any small arm aka pistol or rifle that the military possesses, no regulations on SBR’s or suppressors and legalizing automatic weapons I know it will never happen so I would settle on the removal of the $200 tax stamp.

And I know it’s selfish but I say states rights because that’s the only way progress will ever be made on it.

Okay. IG for President!:dance3:

Your missing the point. The states can do whatever they want, but they cannot over rule the federal government in this matter.

Markm for president! A chicken in every pot and an LWRC in every gun safe!

In a perfect world things would be different & better. In this imperfect world the system works pretty well. $200 has slowed me down a little but not too much. I have a lower waiting to become my next SBR. It is just. It a priority right now. That’s two weeks of gas for my pick up.

I must be, because all I am saying is that the federal government should hand over the power to the states for decisions on NFA items there are quite a few states that would probably do away with rediculous regulation.
