We can't win for losing - Gun show NDs

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57564877/5-hurt-in-shootings-at-gun-shows-in-ohio-ind-nc/

I’d like to know how often this occurs nationally and annually. I’m not a news junkie, but this takes the cake. When a friend told me about one of these NDs a few hours ago, we looked at each other in the same moment and both thought it was a set-up. Certainly more newbies may be flooding to the market, due to the grand BHO gun sales event of the century, and then screwing up due to not knowing/following the 4 basic safety rules…

PLEASE everyone be extra careful.

Gun owners are under a microscope right now and every screw up WILL make the news.

Let’s keep this all in perspective:

Out of the tens (hundreds?) of thousands of people who attended gun shows in the past year and handled firearms, there are a handful of negligent discharges and no actual fatalities? That’s an amazing safety record for a device that involves explosive charges, high velocity projectiles, and moving parts.

Second, what does this “news” article really amount to? “Accidents can happen.” Holy crap, who knew?

Third, I can pretty much guarantee you at any given gun show, more people are injured by knives than by guns. Hell, there’s already at least one person who cut themselves by accident at SHOT Show this year that’s been caught on video (see nutnfancy’s Benchmade booth review video and watch the Keltec guy accidentally slice himself closing one of the Benchmade folders). OMG knives can be dangerous! Who knew?

So really, this “news” article is 100% worthless except for stupid people: People stupid enough to think it’s evidence of something that it’s not (“gun owners are stupid” or “guns are too dangerous”), and people stupid enough to believe those people. The downside is that there are an awful lot of useful idiots these days.

Sounds like the last guy was at home and not at the gun show. Straight retard, sounds like people who were not very familiar with guns. Lets face it alot of people are buying guns right now that may not complete respect or understand them. So with increased buying you have a greater chance of shit sticks having ADs.

Nice to know that if the flag ever goes up, several FUDDs will immediately begin culling themselves from the herd…

Negligent discharges can happen to anyone that’s careless.

It’s dumb asses who don’t follow basic safety rules that give the anti-2nd Amendment folks ammunition to use against us. Safety rules exist for very good reason.

Three in one day the weekend after obama’s horse and pony show. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

A good friend of mine has been doing gun shows almost every weekend for many years…unfortunately this does happen more than you think. But with 80-100 million gun owners, and millions of people and guns at gun shows, there are bound to be incidents.

I have been going to the Medina Ohio gun show since the late 70s. I understand how stupid people are, but the timing combined with three on the same day is a clue. There is something else at work here.

I’ve been going to gun shows for 20+ years & recently attended Shot Show which had a turnout of 60K+ & have never heard of an injury at any of them. Hell, there are more injuries at music concerts than gun shows.

No firing weapons on the floor at SHOT! That is why there are no problems there.

They do a great job.

I’ve heard of one discharge before this. Not on the news, just people talking. I know people cut themselves all the time.

The problem now is that the MSM is waiting and watching for this.

That shotgun deal sounds a bit suspicious. The other two sound like stupid NDs after the shows. Probably in the parking lots.

Cops at the door of the Medina show check guns and zip tie them as they come in.

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the display firearms at SHOT do not have firing pins.

Funny how they are termed “dumbasses” and “stupid”.

I suppose that all who call them names are PERFECT IN ALL WAYS.

I’m an engineer and a driver yet I make mistakes at both.

I suppose you have never talked on the phone while driving; never tailgated or obstructed traffic; never traveled faster than the posted speed limit; never ran a stop sign; never pulled into an adjacent lane only to realize it was occupied. Am I also to believe that you’ve never slipped or tripped while walking; knock over a glass of water. The list is endless.

Yes, they violated the rules of firearm handling and they paid handsomely.

Keep in mind there is always tomorrow…

Don’t judge unless the person CHOOSES to be an ass about safety. I have a co-worker who is ex-Army tell me he “hates safety Nazis” and apparently thinks little of “treat all firearms as if they are loaded, don’t point them at anything you don’t want destroyed…” I have no fucking clue what he feels is acceptable safety and I don’t wish to bridge that conversation with him as its an asinine position that he may have to learn the hard way. I just do not wish to be around for that revelation.

Don’t judge; we can all be judged and found wanting.

I still question if these events are just a setup to end gun shows altogether. If these are honestly just random accidents, then yes I would call whoever put the rounds in the chamber and those who did not check it before they pulled the trigger “dumbasses” and “stupid”. They in their acts may have just helped to stop gun shows altogether. We will be the ones who also pay for their stupidity.

Guess they missed this one then, didn’t they?

You don’t have to be perfect, you DO have to be responsible.

Bringing a shotgun to a gunshow that is loaded in the case is GROSSLY IRRESPONSIBLE.

Responsible gun owners would have verified it was unloaded before loading it in their vehicle and probably again before entering the gunshow even to have it inspected.

It was inconceivably irresponsible to then manage to discharge the loaded weapon and shoot other people while presented it to an officer who is there to verify it is an unloaded weapon.

These things aren’t “accidents.” It would be an accident to drop an unloaded shotgun on the floor.

If you cannot take the simple step of verifying a weapon that you present to another person is UNLOADED then you should not have firearms. I can’t count the number of times some dipshit has handed me a loaded firearm for inspection, usually under the assumption that it is “unloaded.”

It is probably the single most irresponsible thing you can do with a firearm (assume it is unloaded without verifying) and usually results in the most “preventable” shootings.

Thankfully my father taught me to always personally verify a firearms loaded / unloaded status regardless of any person’s claims.
