Some run just fine. Some have issues with sight cant and also with the looseness or tightness of the magazines, and how well they feed.
These come in with a mag well that only accepts single stack mags, the guys at Century open the mag well up to accept military mags.
Sometimes they get it right, sometimes they don’t.
Don’t buy one without inspecting it first.
Definately look over the Wasr’s before purchase. There are definately better and worse ones. Keep an eye out for a CUR2 or SAR2, they are much nicer. I love my SAR2.
Any opinions on the Tantal in 5.45x39? I would think it’s a step above the WASR, and the price is still low enough.
Depends on who built it up. A ton of kits came in the country, it’s going to depend on who built it and on what receiver.
But, going on parts…Polish parts/barrels tend to be higher quality than Romanian parts.
Templar, It would be the “Interarms wz. 88 Tantal” that’s out in the market right now in fixed and sidefolder versions.
The folding wire-type stock doesn’t interest me, I just wonder if anyone knows if this can be replaced by a solid or trianlge type sidefolder (like Arsenal’s) or if it’s better to just get the fixed stock model and stick with that, provided these Tantals are even recommended.
Sorry if I hijacked the thread and thanks for the info.
Any parts-kit rifle is a crap shoot, IMO. It may be the best shooter you’ve ever had or it may be out of square and suck.
The “wire folder” is just held to the same tangs as a fixed stock with different screws, so no a proper Russian or Bulgarian side folder will not bolt on to the rifle. Unless you are jumping out of helicopters or BMPs regularly, the fixed stock is easier to shoot well and you won’t miss the folder, IMO.

I haven’t heard anything negative about the Interarms builds yet, but I don’t know how many are in circulation.
As M_P said, it might be the best shooter you’ve ever had, it might not…
If you buy it from Atlantic Firearms though, they will back you up if something’s screwed up, usually just replacing the rifle out of their own stock. Good people to deal with.
Thanks for the information. I have an Armory USA 85C in 7.62x39 and it’s worked just fine so far, no issues ever, reliability or even finish wise. If I decide on an inexpensive 5.45x39, I’ll probably go with an Interarms Tantal.
I wish that I could say something more profund than Templar and h8mtv, but I can’t…
Those two together know more about AK’s then most other people breathing - listen to whatever they say.
I have a SAR-2, it works fine, no problems but a slightly canted front sight, no biggie. I also have one of the Interarms Tantal builds. The Tantal is more accurate than the SAR-2, I’d say around 25%, but haven’t really shot comparison groups. My main reason for buying the SAR was to shoot corrosive surplus. If I was only going to have one it would be the Tantal, better build quality and accuracy, but twice the price.
