WASR-10/63

Hey all, had a few spare dollars laying around and picked up a wasr 10/63 this past weekend, paid 500 for it new with 2 steel mags, the thing I’m using it for is just a backup SHTF gun. I would like a folding stock for it that won’t break the bank, it is only a backup after all. But my question to all of you is what folding stock is the best bang for my buck?

I’d honestly just throw on an ace sidefolder and call it a day. Like you said, it’s a wasr. I know tapco makes polymer ones that are cheap but I wouldn’t recommend them. Really it depends on the amount your wanting to sink into it being a sub par gun.

All I’m wanting is for it to be a backup, I have an arsenal ak already and I want this to be a throw around gun, toss it in the door of the truck, folded up beside the bed, or a personal defense backup in camping, just need it a little more compact

You could try to locate a wire folding stock and maybe wrap some para cord on it.

Any places you would recommend looking?

Apex gun parts has them for $80, used to have one on my wasr.

Thank you

Wrong. A WASR with straight sights that shoots well (the very vast majority of them) is every bit as good as any other AK in terms of function. They just don’t always look as nice.

Not in terms of barrel quality. Fit and finish are also spotty. Don’t get me wrong, I have family members that have wasr 10/63 and they shoot fine and I do like them at a certain price point.

There was a brief run of WASR types with commercial barrels, but I believe all WASR 10/63s use the same high quality, chrome lined, cold hammer forged, mil spec barrel.

This was all the result of some compliance inspector asking, are these surplus barrels? Yes. Well then they count as machine guns because… electricity, you know?

Hmm I thought wasr now had u.s. made barrels. I knew a lot of the century 5.45 had major key holing problems with the u.s. made barrels they had. Like I said I’m not bashing anyone’s wasr I’m just stating that compared to other options they are “rough.” That being said the point I was trying to make is, if he wanted a folding stock to just get the cheapest one he could find without degrading durability(tapco folder) especially since it is a truck gun. I know a few who opted for the wire folding stock wrapped in para cord, which IMO makes for a no frills sturdy stock.

You thought wrong… and the Tantals were a whole different issue.

The Tantals were kit guns assembled by the drunken monkeys on both the high quality NDS-2T receiver and the low quality mystery receiver. This is not the primary source of their issues. The original Green Mountain 5.45x39mm barrels had 1/9 twist .223 barrels with a 5.45x39 chamber cut. This is (obviously) improper.

OMGosh, please stop with the TAPCO.

From reading around I’ve picked up that tapco is junk… I know it isn’t a 1000+ ak but I don’t want to put tapco junk on it and look like a “gun show operator” I still have my pride man… Come on

KalashniKEV, chill out I’ll admit I’m wrong on century rifles! Back to op question and let’s quit debating the quality of a gun he already has.

99% tapco es no bueno. The tapco saw grip is the 1% for me… That grip was made for my hand it seems.

Tapco is usually crap but for range use their mags always worked in my WASR. Also the G2 trigger is nice.

Also, what mags should I buy? I have two steel mags with the rib on the back, what ones are best for a wasr? Are the us Palm any good?

There are many opinions on this, but Euro pattern steel mags are the best mags.

I would avoid the US Palm.

Thank you

The new Magpul mags look intriguing for those running 7.62
