Well was looking at making a 10" pistol 300 Blackout and a 16" Blackout makes little sense. I’m really stuck on what to do at this point. Should I:
- SBR it
- Continue with the pistol build even given what this administration is doing?

Easiest way to answer that, is to ask yourself if you want an NFA item in your home or not? Do you want to deal with all the NFA regulations once it’s assembled and tax stamp paid for?
I’m not a fan of getting on the NFA “list”. I down own any SBR or Silencers so I feel I’m more under the radar than those that have sent their stamps in.
It’s a tough call with braces being on the chopping block. You never know what legislation or definitions are coming in the future, making it difficult to come to a decision on these things. If you really want a short 300 BLK, I say go for it. You could always navigate the brace definition/legislation as it unfolds. If anything, you can revert back to running a single point sling, and using the tension of the sling to steady the weapon as you fire it.
The bad thing is I really want a Deadair Nomad, I was almost ready to get it and backed out. Would also love a SBR…
Just nervous about getting my finger prints and all on “file”. Especially seeing how crooked the people that keep the “file” seem to be.
Are you building a 10" to shoot only supersonic ammo? If you are thinking a can and subs you are getting into NFA anyway. I would SBR a good lower and be done with it. It is a pain but once you have one you can play around with short uppers all you want.
I don’t have any interest in subs except maybe for the fun factor every now and then. But I want it mainly for HD and handload 110gr
Bare buffer tube = Not rifle.

The AFT is going to pissed, lol.
Over half this forum is screwed if owning a NFA item puts you on the no no list. Honestly just build what you want, and do so within the law, and you’ll be fine.
I am going to build at least 2 more pistols, not because I need them or even want them.
Just because I can.
I guess worst case, if I build it a pistol now I can “get a free SBR” later.
I don’t prefer BLK, and I’m definitely on the NFA “list”, but you can absolutely do Home D with a 16” BLK. People do CQB with 16” AKs (some suppressed) and suppressed M4s/416s everyday/night.
Personally, I’d choose a 5.56 SBR, but its not as big a deal as some make of it.
1168 is right about home defense with a 16". You would also get more velocity with a longer barrel since you are not worried about subs.
Another option is pin/weld to the shortest length that is still non-NFA. I built a 5.56 rifle like this as a let’s see if I like it experiment and it has become one of my all around favorites. You can get down into 13.xx length barrels with a 12 in rail and have a pretty handy rifle. Exact length will depend on what muzzle device you choose but you get the idea.
I don’t think a 16" 300 blackout makes sense. Little to no noticeable velocity is gained by it. Before I went that route I would probably go 14.5 pinned and welded AR10 in 308. Would make a 110gr Varmageddon be a mini grenade at house distance.
However I eventually want to get a suppressor so I guess I should also just go SBR.
A popular myth is that 300BLK is a totally different sort of cartridge in relation to barrel length. It isn’t. In supersonic form, it gains and loses about as much velocity per inch as most other rifle cartridges, in reasonable barrel lengths. Assuming most popular projectile weights for each, that’s about 25fps/in just like 5.56, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8SPC, 7.62x39 and .308. It does have a lower uncorking pressure than most of those.
Speaking of uncorking pressure, a 14.5” .308 would indeed be a grenade at house distance, on both ends.
The best time to buy a silencer is a year ago, and the second best time is today. The worst time to buy one is eventually. Tomorrow is Two-Stamp Tuesday.
I don’t know if it will be free. Nothing in life is free.
Republicans need to win big in November and then pull on their big boy pants and put an end to this.
In for a penny, in for a pound.
Considered .300 HAM’R?
Very simple. Simply tell the Feds to F/O. Of course you can, like so many, bow to the tyrants and accept being a “subject”. Your call.
