I have the itch for a high quality, piston driven upper no longer than 11.5 inch barrel.
I already have DI SBR’s, I might make a gun with a folding butt stock.
who should I consider?
Thanks.

7" PWS Diablo or PWS MK110. simplest piston design out.
what’s the consensus on PWS?
how do they stack up to other piston manufacturers?
ok, never mind, I’m a dumb ass.
I want to make a folding stock SBR.
I just realized that the bolt carrier still needs a buffer tube.
No worries! I think it is still a good question. I’ve been looking at their 12.5" upper.
Robb Jensen did a review on the PWS piston conversion a few years ago: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=13115
I wonder, is there any use and reporting on the now complete PWS upper by our distinguished panel of experts?
FWIW, I thought it was a novel idea because it didn’t use any novel ideas or unproven technologies. It uses the ak47 bolt actuation - piston design which has proven highly reliable over many, many, many thousands of rounds and greatly varied operating conditions.
Not very many Top quality AR’s with folding stocks, just saying.
Agreed. all 3 of my PWS guns run 100% just like my AK’s.
You pretty much have three quality options.
Get an SLR 106 CR and have the barrel chopped to 12.5in.
Get a SCAR 16 and have the barrel chopped to 10.5.
Get an MR556 and have the barrel chopped (although this has never been done).
In general, piston driven AR’s are homo. The AR platform was designed to work with DI. Without seriously redesigning the weapon (such as a bolt carrier that rides on rails) pistons AR’s are about as stupid as trying to make a half unicorn half pig, it just doesn’t work and when something does, it’s all fucked up.
Both options 1 and 2 have folding stocks. I’d go for option 2.
With logic like this, every shop building piston uppers should move their ops to SF, eh? Brilliant dialogue, Mr. Goodbar.
+1 on the 7" Diablo. I have one and am very happy with it. But I shoot my DI 11.5" Noveske/MUR-1 set up more and LOVE it.
This is perfect sig line material hahaha :D:lol:
