Revealing my gross ignorance…
I always see the “walkback” drill mentioned. I think I get the concept, but could someone describe the “official” version?

LAV’s signature drill. can be done with carbine or pistol. designed to take you out of your comfort zone.
example:
get a bunch of guys together.
stand back from steel plate (human torso sized) about 25 yards.
each person gets a chance to shoot at it. you get two shots.
if you miss, you’re out.
the folks from the first group who successfully hit the target WALK BACK another 25 yards (put more distance between themselves and the target).
repeat.
the last man standing at x00 yards is the winner.
rules may vary … strong hand or weak hand, can be timed or untimed, can be done from various starting positions (holstered or low read for pistol or prone/kneeling for carbine, etc), single action/double action, etc.
LAV has a great variation with the carbine to incorporate the switch shoulder practice. if you miss your first shot with the strong side, you have to switch shoulder and do your makeup shot with your weak side.
etc.

Nice pic of my hood Slut! What is incredible is I shot my 3 month old G19 in the storm a hell of a lot better than my 92FS Elite the second day when it was nice and sunny.
This is a great confidence drill and is not simply a “take your best shot” drill, albeit this is a great drill to apply freshly learned processes. Can be a little more of a “thinking mans games.” An example of this is during LAV’s Tac Carbine/Pistol class where if you miss your first shot, attempt second week or single handed or…you are timed to take a shot in 3 sec or 2 shots in 5 sec. Another example, with the carbine on a timed shot, from the low ready - take a careful shot within 5 seconds, or take the time to drop into the prone and take the supported…
There is no “formal” set target size for this, it’s usually whatever steel target available at the range. We’ve used anything from 10" circular plates, pepper poppers, 1/2 size to full size IPSC steel target. Ken Hackathorn have used this drill in his classes for years.
Makes sense, that’s kinda what I pictured. Thanks guys.
hey, in this case, i think ACU looks a heck of a lot better than “replicant.” ![]()
dude, I’ve been looking all day for a suitable pic of someone in a replicant suit to add to the AAR thread - but my search-fu is weak today ![]()
Also called the French Invasion drill…
Nah, can’t be.
