Wacky ejection after replacing a worn extractor

The springs function… it’s the corrosion test failures that stick in my side. I know we’re not doing Combat Diver missions, but I still am not warm to the stuff.

Uncoated CS and your bang on…CS is possibly the worst alloy for corrosion resistance among common spring steels.

But the Springco springs are fully moly coated. The extractor spring in the suppressed gun still looks shiny and new. I saw it about 600 rounds ago.

Also Rainier Arms has used CS springs in their bolts for almost 5 years now. I have one from 4 years ago (lives in the wife’s rifle) and the extractor still looks new…i just broke that one down. It’s shot plenty of Russian ammo and basically just lives by the wife’s night stand. And i live in central Florida.

EDIT: this does not mean that normal spring steels can’t work JUST FINE as ejector springs. They can and do all the time.

One of those super strong extractor (not ejector) springs came with the blue buffer spring I got from springco. It was too strong, honestly. I specifically remember trying it a couple years ago and all types of ammo were barely ejecting.

And that’s why they also make a 4 coil spring.

What is the normal interval for replacing the extractor when doing preventative maintenance?

When it fails to extract. There is no set interval. If I push down the rear of the extractor and it is mushy, I replace the spring. If the front of the extractor feels dull or rounded and there are any chips, etc… I replace it.

Am I the only one here who thinks it’s the action spring?

Seriously functions fine on weak steel cased ammo, and cycles to fast with good hot M193. He is running a 2yr old action spring according to the OP.
