So I bought a Leupold VX-6 a while back and have been running it on a SCAR 17. So far, so good and I’m pleased with the quality of the glass, low weight, and red dot function. I was really sold on it (and the ADM Scout mount) after a root tripped me in the woods resulting in a face plant, the gun/scope slammed and braced my crash in the ground. Certain something was broken (me,gun,scope) but everything was still GTG even set up targets to “re-sight” rifle, but the zero was still rock on. I’m over 500 rounds and find that it’s a perfect fit for my needs. It’s primary purpose is a utility gun on my farm, shooting 3 Gun, and hunting whitetails/hogs. The 1x power dot is not as fast as my EoTech, but quick nonetheless. The top end 6x is great for better ID’ing targets at a distance or detail up close. Example, Last light while deer hunting, and I’m close to switching the safety off and taking a doe at about 80 yds in the woods while the scope was set a 3-4x, dial up to 6x and low and behold it’s a spike deer with tiny antlers the same length as his ears. Save. So, I have a SCAR 16, was planning to run the EoTech on it and but found the utility of running the 1-6x appealing. I’ve got them set up identical with BFG slings, AFG, etc…So what’s the downside of having the same scope on a 17 and 16? Other than costs, that is…The rifle’s use and purpose would be the same. I appreciate your feedback.
What reticle are you using?
German # 4, Illuminated dot
I am sure its a good scope but that reticle sucks. No hold over points at all.

None of their reticles have BDC or holdover points, otherwise I’d own three of them.
Then the Vortex 1-6 is the clear winner at that price point.

The Vortex 1-6 and the VX6 aren’t in the same price point. One is $900, and the other is $1500. Right about a 66% difference.
One thing I like about the VX6 is the weight, 14oz compared to 24oz of the Vortex.
The VX6 Multigun has the SPR reticle, but the SPR’s subtentions are kind of coarse but it does give you reference points.
I guess I was thinking of the other Leupold 1-6 that is in the 1600 range. Hopefully it has better reticles.

Since a long shot for my area, mostly woods, a few fields, would be 300 yds, I don’t mind the absence of ranging reticles.
Gotcha, you’re thinking of the Mark 6, of which I’m not liking the initial reviews regarding the illumination. The Mark 6 is suppose to be had with either a horseshoe type reticle or a TMR mil-dot reticle. I’ve never liked Leupold’s horseshoe. Trijicon did a much better job with the horseshoe in this regard. Leupold’s is very cramped.
I’m not looking for ranging and true longer range stuff will more than likely be on a fixed range so I can just dial.
Leupolds reticle drawings absolutley suck. Pictures I’ve seen of the German 4 reticle, which look MUCH closer to Schmidt Bender’s FD7, looks to be their best reticle choice for the VX6 for me. I like the red dot feature of the VX6, the weight and cost. I don’t like the tacky gold ring or the illumination controls. But those really aren’t deal breakers. I really want to know how it compares to the TR24 in terms of eye box before buying one.
My other optic intrests are the Browe Combat optic or the Trijicon ACOG LED, both being used with offset MRDS.
