Anyone here have one? I’ve fallen in love with Vortex and have them on every rifle now, but I’m leaning away from any mag for my brush gun. I use irons which I enjoy shooting, but I’ve always had a hankerin’ to try a reflex or red dot. The SPARC 2 has caught my attention. I’m fine with 2MOA for a brush gun, but these 4+MOA models start to lose my interest. So pretty much any 2MOA reflex or red dot will be up for consideration.
Had a SPARC 2, it was ok. I’m a big fan of Vortex also but found that when it comes to red dots, just pay the extra cash and buy an Aimpoint. The old Daniel Defense AR torture test is best advert for Aimpoint. Can’t imagine the Vortex would have survived that. My 2c.
What made teh SPARC ‘ok’? Was it not capable of 2MOA? Did it break? Bad warranty service? I’m not worried about DD type abuse this isn’t saving my life b/c I’m getting shot at for a living…it’s to kill hogs and varmints when I’m in working on feeders, stands etc. Close in stuff snap shots at critters. If it breaks I’m really ok sending it back to Vortex for their warranty offer. I’ve not had cause to send one back, but I’ve read and seen first hand with a buddies Vortex their support is pretty amazing!
I use a Venom 3 MOA on my steel challenge .22 pistol and it works great. I don’t think I would put it on a brush gun because of the exposed emitter though. I echol the above statement. Aimpoints, MRO’s (my favorite so far), and EOTechs can be had for right around $400. If you don’t like it, you can always sell it at cost less shipping.
I didn’t care for the flaring on the dot. Aimpoint looks better to me but then it should be considering the price difference. I don’t think bad warranty service is a thing for Vortex, they take of people, no questions asked.
Sounds like you have your mind made up. They are cheap enough. Buy it, shoot it, sell it if you don’t like it. Thats what I did, cost me about $20 to “rent” it.
No definitely not made up, but I did want to know exactly what you meant by ‘ok’. That could mean a lot of different things just didn’t know exactly. I’m not adverse to other brands and whatnot, but I am pretty partial to Vortex at the moment. I may very well end up with something completely different. Tahnks!
For a cheaper red dot, i have the primary arms Aimpoint micro pattern red dot on a fun only gun. Same battery life (claimed) as an Aimpoint and the dot seems decent to my eye. Think I paid 170 for mine. The other consideration is the newer Sparc AR. Not sure how much of an improvement it is over the 2 but might be worth a look as you get to keep the Vortex warranty.
I just installed a Vortex Sparc AR on Bil"s AR. 139.99 shipped from last week’s PSA sale. I find it to be excellent. Very crisp dot. And plenty of brightness for anything I can imagine (11 settings). Installed it at absolute co-witness. If I needed another red dot for myself I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another. Believe the regular price was 199.99. It comes with an additional 3mm shim for lower 1/3 co-witness. Though the rubber boot / covers it came encapsulated in are of good quality, I removed it upon his preference. Nice red dot imo. I would expect most anything you might decide on will be on sale over Memorial Day weekend.
Got a chance to try a Burris Fast Fire III and an Aim Point Micro this morning. Liked both, but preferred the FOV on the Burris better. They were on super light 16" AR15’s which was kind of a nice break from my 308AR. From what I can tell reading the data sheets the Venom will have even a bit more FOV. I shoot both eyes open, but my dominant right eye wants as much as I can get into the view considering hogs once they start to scatter. We have a local Bass Pro just going to wait for the Memorial Day sale and maybe find a Venom/SPARC and anything else I can try b/t now and then. Thanks for the info guys.
Ahhhhhh crap! I missed it by a week ended April 30. I know one of my pals would have found a way to ‘need’ that prism sight to take advantage. Will keep fingers ready for Memorial Day sales. Thanks for the heads up
