I’ve got an 18 inch AR15 SPR built and need a halfway decent scope. Can’t pay anymore than 1k for one. For a while I was set on the 2.5-10x44 from Vortex but after reading about it more and taking a look at one at a LGS it seems like for $800 this scope is the best bang for the buck in variable power optics. Curious what you guys think and if there are any comparable optics in the same price range.
The Vortex 2.5x10x32 has been through the paces enough now that I’d go for it and not look back for an SPR.
Most will tell you that it’s 90% of the Nightforce and half the price.
mine will be here tuesday. will report back. supposed to be the best scope in the pst line up. and dont pay $800. I just payed $690 shipped for a new one from a hide vendor. just call around.
I have one on my SPR, and it’s a great optic.
I really wanted one if these for my SPR.
Couldn’t find one so I settled for their 1-4x offering.
Eventually I’ll sell the 1-4 and buy one of these.
Seems like the perfect optic for a precision AR.
It’s great. No complaints except there’s a little black thing I can see at 2.5x on the edge, I tried wiping both lenses and it didn’t go away. How do I get it out lol.
But besides that one annoyance, it’s great.
Get a 20 moa mount for it. When zeroing on a 0 moa mount then setting up the zero stop, you feel silly because you aren’t using even half the vertical adjustment range.
do you feel this is necessary with the ballistics of the .223/5.56? considering the trajectory (moa drop) and yardage in which the round will start to become subsonic? or would you rather have center of scope closer to center of the bore?

This is the mount I have, in my opinion it’s got the best QD mechanism out there.
There is absolutely no downside to getting a 20 moa mount unless you already have a 0 moa mount. And if it’s on a QD mount, you can move it to a .308 or bigger!
could you recomend a setup with the 20 moa that could be swapped to a rem 700 bolt gun that would work well? and there is no downside to getting a mount with built in moa?
If your Rem 700 has a standard drop comb stock I’d suggest something like a Badger Ordnance 20MOA riser and standard scope rings. That way your scope will not be too high on your bolt gun and you will in effect have a 20MOA mount on your AR. If you want QD you can use the LaRue scope rings.
forgive me as I am ignorant. Whos mount is this.

I’ll put it to you this way, if this had been available when I was shopping, I would have picked it up over my Nightforce.
I will take the FFP option every single time if it’s available, and while I could pound nails with my NF, I don’t plan on ever having to do so. At a much lower price than the NF, it’s really a no brainer.
anyone using this optic…how much elevation adjustment do you have left after zeroing? does it zero in the middle leaving approx 13 mrad/43 moa elevation adjustment? trying to figure out if i need a 0 moa or 20 moa mount.
There is a lot of wasted elevation on a 0 moa mount, 20 would be recommended. On a 556 gun though you have enough given the typical distances for 556 if you already own a mount. On a 308 you’d be served better by swapping out.

It will be for 5.56, 6.8 spc
Yeah, with a 0 moa mount, it’s pretty much in the middle, wasting half of the elevation range.
I like SFP scopes a lot more in this power range. The Vortex SFP version doesn’t have the best glass.
The reticle is extremely fine at 2.5x. If you’re set on 2.5x, you probably aren’t holding or ranging.
On say a 6-24x, FFP makes much more sense. JMO.
Most will tell you that it’s 90% of the Nightforce and half the price.
No one jumped on this so I will. There is a sliding scale of value when it comes to optics. Meaning you start paying exponentially more for incremental increases in quality.
Example, my old Vortex 2.5-10x44 at first was very nice. Served me well given its price point. When it got below 30 degrees out, those nice tactile clicks faded away…
I heard the 2.5-10x44 has much worse glass than the x32 version being discussed here. I’ve never used the x44 version, but my friend’s NF isn’t noticeably more clear or better than my Vortex 2.5-10x32. I do like the NF power lever and zero stop though. The vortex zero stop is inelegant in my opinion, but it works.
At 2.5x, I can use the Vortex as a close combat optic using the “BAC” or whatever it is that Trijicon calls it… Shoot two eyes open with low magnification and your brain will make it work. I actually kind of prefer shooting with 2.5x at 5-10m over a 1-4x at 1x. A red dot is better than both though.
