Vortex optics 1-4x PST

any reviews? Interested in the 1-4x band wagon. I don’t really have any experience with 1-4x scopes.

might use it for plinking nothing serious. maybe 300 yards max?

I’m very happy with this scope on my 3Gun rifle (I have version with MRAD and high turrets, for MOA version I recommend to go with capped turrets). Also shooting 300m is no problem with it (good enough to hit steel Warsaw Pact body armour insert with every shot prone from magazine rest). I like glass, reticle, build quality, big eyebox. Also Vortex warranty seem decent, even that I did not have opportunity to use it (but I was assured by Vortex that it work also for me, living overseas).

I think what’s available is the uncapped. was able to see 1 from a friend hours ago…

my ar15 has a fsb. what mount do you suggest? easier to get ADM for me. im also overseas. as of the moment i have an Aimpoint ML2 in a LT150 mount

I’ve run the Vortex PST 1-4x24 MRad for a little over a year now. Best scope I’ve ever had on my gun. Glass is high end quality for bottom end price. You really get alot for your money.

MRad reticle matched my 69gr SMK handload perfect out to 600(as far as I had a chance to shoot).

edit - Its sitting in a ADM mount.

wow that’s nice to hear. For the price I was really not sure.

Ok… so the ADM mount… should it be 3in offset? or 2in offset?

Im looking at the AD-Recon right now… but am not sure which offset to get.

I have a capped moa version in a vortex branded adm mount on my LMT and it flat out kicks ass. The adm is the 2 inch offset.

I used the 2in offset, and it was just fine.

I use AD-Scout with 2" offset and it is fine for me as well. Scope has 4" eye relief. For more frontal stance 2" offset mount is enough. But for strongly bladed stance (side toward target) 3" offset probably will be better.

To compliment my Viper PST I use iStrelok ballistic program (iPhone/Android), that has Viper reticle and can show holdovers for distance and wind on reticle picture also taking used magnification in account. Very handy.

Basically… im getting the the viper pst 1-4x and a 2" offset ADM…

last few questions…

if the Vortex mount was made by ADM why isn’t it any good? i’ve read somewhere that it’s “fragile”?

what is the MRAD? i did see it in the scope of my friend the turrets were mrad

These are outstanding scopes. A few teammates and I used these last deployment over issue Elcans. We like the ability to change zeroes and dopes depending on atmospherics rather than BDC reticles calibrated at sea level with standard atmospherics. They all held up to normal abuse deployed guns go through. The mount and scope combo weighs the same as an Elcan too. They currently reside on all of our personal guns. I am now waiting on the Leupold Mark 6 TMR, but you cannot find a better value than these Vortex 1-4 scopes. Excellent customer service too.

Forgot to add that these scopes were used successfully out past 800 meters…

I havent had any problems with mine, the only difference i can see between the vortex branded and the standard adm’s are the rings. the vortex on have 2 cross screws on the top vs 3 and dont have a window cutout on the sides. The rings are interchangable so if you dont like the vortex ones you can buy the standard adm’s.

I would get the HS version as the exposed target knobs are easy to accidently move on this scope. Its happened to me a few times with my 4-16 PST FFP. The HS version is the same scope with covered turrents. Good scope for the money. Cons are the illumination sucks as its not daylight visible. But if thats not important to you no worries. Pro’s great warranty and overall good scope for the money.

Your info is not up to date. Version with capped turrets is marked as Viper PST as well (so there are 3 version of Viper PST 1-4x24: MRAD with high turrets, MOA with high turrets and MOA with capped turrets). Vortex changed this like year ago or so.

But you are right about high turrets. They have very aggressive knurling and easily can be accidentally moved one or two clicks. I also experienced on one match that someone came to rack with rifles and quickly turned my windage about 3mrad off. Capped turrets are way to go for 1-“something” scopes.

Will probably be purchasing a variable next year and I am interested in the Vortex line up. My questions are:

  1. Who has had to deal with their CS and how did they respond to your problem/problems.

  2. Where are Vortex scopes made and is it an American company? I went looking around their website and didn’t find anything.

The lower price and my lack of experience and knowledge with this company has me asking this. Thanks,

  1. Do a search on Snipers hide, Vortex is known for great customer support. They are top notch and have no questions asked warranty that they honor.
  2. Some of their scopes are made in the Phillipines and some Japan but then again the same is true for most so called American scope companies even Leupold.
  3. Yes they are an american company.

I have had great luck with my Vortex PST.

Thanks for your reply. If guys like you and Fuhrman use them and swear by them then that eases my mind a little.

As far as the origin of the scope of course I’d rather it come from the States but it’s not like I don’t have a Swedish Aimpoint on my AR right now. Was more concerned with Chinese components more than anything.

Sorry to drag this up, but I’m looking at a 1-4 PST for a Colt 901. I understand that the people in this thread like the scope, but I was interested in how durable you guys feel this scope is compared to other 1-4 optics (like a TR24).
